I think you've got this 100% right. Hopefully they'll figure it out within the next couple of weeks, because it was painful to listen to. It definitely gave an advantage to those with lots of performing experience--Bo sounded great, and Constantine sounded the best he'd sounded in a long while.

Mikalah: Serious pitch issues. Not the worst but not all that great.

I don't think her pitch was her worst problem--she needs mike training. She wasn't consistently on mike, so there was no way to make her sound good. Hooray for the improved eye makeup, however.

Nadia: Randy said it well. The contest finally started with her last night. She looked great and sounded better. This was good.

She sounded better at the beginning, when she was actually singing, than at the end, when she was mostly shouting. Great energy, yes, but she's going to kill her voice.

Bo: Oh yeah, he rocked it! Blood Sweat and Tears meets American Idol. The only thing he really needs is to lose the spare tire and get an eyebrow wax.

It wouldn't kill him to up his youth appeal, either. Right now he's like unfrozen 1970s arena rock god. Maybe they'll have a 90s night, and he can do some Pearl Jam or something. Still 10 years old, but better than 30-40.

Right now everything--judges' comments in particular--is based on expectations. Anwar and Jessica fell short last night; Bo and Nadia met; Constantine, Vonzell & Nikko somewhat exceeded. Even though Constantine, Vonzell & Nikko are worse singers than Anwar & even Jessica, they did better compared to expectations and got better comments from the judges.

I think Lindsey ought to go tonight.
