Jesuschrist flinty. You're really starting to worry me. You're channeling the ghost of Hank. What next, drunken midnight incoherent rants?

Not quite. Hank's posts at any time of day are the product of an infinte number of monkeys banging on keyboards. (Think "Styx's Greatest Hits.") Flinty is more of a thoughtful, introspective solo artist, like Billy Joel.

The Australian Lester is doing better than the American one.

Best line: "He first set out to be a lawyer but soon realised he could cash in on his memory and intellect." That stings.

Atticus appears to have taken on that role.

Billy Joel? I thought we were friends, even if only imaginary. Flinty likes to think of himself as more of a Rick Springfield-type, or even a Corey Hart.

Thursday Next & Question for Anglophiles

I just read "The Little Prince" (how did I get through childhood without discovering this?) and will have to catch up on more missed literature after I read "Something Rotten."

One thing troubled me throughout the book that those of you who know how to spell in British could help me with: Is "mispeling vyrus" the correct British spelling for what would be "misspelling virus" in American?
I can't answer your question, but I just finished Something Rotten and I feel similarly literarily handicapped. Somehow I managed to get through 20 years of school without ever being forced to read Hamlet. I know that there was a lot of stuff going on in the novel that I just didn't get. Regardless, it was excellent, and perhaps my favorite one in the series so far. But it still didn't make me want to read Hamlet.

Wow, broken board...

Anyway, for those football fans out there, did you see TO* doing Ray Lewis' rEdiculously-named "Squirrel" dance on Sunday? Funny as hell.

OK, not a good picture, but it was the best I could find.

I just remember Wheaties making a big deal out of the low number of people it has selected for a box cover. Maybe they were talking about singling that athlete out as opposed to honoring teams. I don't know.

Although I do not share Thurgreed's emotional investment in the Wheaties Box issue, I will share something I read this morning anyway. Because I like to share:

__________________________________________

For marketers, the uplifting tale reverberating in the news media of how the Red Sox returned to the victors' circle after more than eight decades of futility is elevating the team to a status far above that of typical winners of a single title.

* * *

Another totem of athletic achievement, an appearance on the Wheaties cereal box, had not been conferred on a World Series winner by General Mills since the New York Yankees beat the Atlanta Braves in 1999. But Mr. Ortiz, with his teammates in the background, will show up on several million Wheaties packages now being distributed nationally.

"The history of the Red Sox is a great story, one of the biggest in sports," said Greg Zimprich, a spokesman for the Big G cereals division of General Mills in Golden Valley, Minn. "We felt Wheaties should be there and be part of it."

The Red Sox are also a team "that has a great following nationally," he added, which could stimulate Wheaties sales more than if the team had only local or regional appeal. Mr. Zimprich recalled during a recent visit to Los Angeles "driving down Santa Monica Boulevard and seeing a bar with a big Red Sox logo out front."

Every single recap of the game on TV yesterday had the dance. It was awesome.

In Texans fashion news, as much as I enjoy Battle Red Day (sponsored, in part, by Halliburton, I'm not sure those tee shirts would be worn as much in any other city), I get confused watching my boys in red uniforms. I keep on thinking I'm watching the Chiefs or the Patriots. There weren't nearly as many people in costume at the game as I thought there'd be. Just the usual freaks.

Question: How many years should a team be in existence before people start sporting that team's logo as a tattoo?

There are quite a few people in my section who already are proudly showing off their Texans ink. I'm a loyal fan, I yell at the games (30 forced timeouts, offsides and delay of games so far this year directly attributable to fan noise at Reliant stadium this year) as loudly as anyone, I've bought a fair amount of Texans merchandise, but it wouldn't occur to me to get a Texans tattoo.

Best I saw over the holiday was not particularly original, but was very well executed. Group of four 20-somethings were The Scooby Doo Gang.

(And Daphne was smokin').

You would think those guys with Oilers tats would have learned their lesson.

Best costume I saw was the Holmgren trio yesterday. Was pretty funny. 3 guys dressed with headphones, clipboards, pillow tummies, fake moustaches and combovers.
