As an aside, I have an HD-ready tv, but I choose not to get HDTV for a variety of reasons. Ever since they started offering games in HD, it seems like the picture quality of the regular (non-HD broadcast games) has gone to shit. Are they doing this on purpose to fork out for the HD?

Yes. And no.
Your HD ready set is for crap on standard television because there's too much interpolating and recreating and digitizing to make fit going on. Get the HDTivo and be done with it. Baller like you can afford $1000.

I LOVE watching football on HD. Every ten seconds or so someone in the room marvels at how perfect the picture is. For whatever reason, the local Fox affiliate wasn't broadcasting on HD two weeks ago, and we had to watch on regular tv and it was a horrible, agonizing experience.
The TV time out that I can't stand is the post-kickoff time out. I know and understand and appreciate the clock stoppage after a change in possession, but since there was already a TV timeout right after the touchdown it seems like a waste of time. They come back to show one play and then go back to scare me with those (very hot) Nike Warriors some more. I'm also sensing a blue state/red state vibe from the car manufacturers. I'm a little off balance seeing those Honda save-energy-or-you're-a-bad-bad-person ads right after the Hummer is-just-a-big-ol-toy-don't-worry-about-the-bad-stuff ads. Football is the only time I actually sit through commercials.
I'm with Pony on the bad tackling. My sister and I have offered to give one-on-one tackling lessons, because we're pretty sure that we can take receivers down in the open field better than some linebackers and DBs. So far no takers.

How does liking Stripes make my distaste for About Schmidt somehow off the mark?* The two movies are in completely different genres. If you like hamburgers, are you incapable of determining when a steak is bad? Is this how you think?
On the contrary. It was one of the funnier things Paigow said in response to something stupid I said.
Gatti already said he stopped squinting.
Hmmmmmm.

*I do like how your search of anything Stripes-related in my posts turned something up, resulting in your thinking you have driven home your flawed point, though.

Stop this annoyance this instance. I said I liked a movie. You asked me why, knowing you'd never change your mind about the movie. I told you why I liked it anyway. Then you moved in for the kill, happy to have a reason to call me Stoopid. Then I implied YOU were Stoopid by virtue of your unfunny avatar and high propensity to hit "refresh" all day long. As expected, the whole thing climaxed in a proliferation of photos of well dressed, badass black men being posted. Happy Munday.

I had it installed, and had it removed. My tv is HD-ready, but I don't think it has the integrated converter. This means another converter box and another remote. Also, I have a widescreen tv. Without the converter, I can adjust the zoom to fill the screen. With the converter, all non-HD programming was with the stupid bars (with T-W logo) on the side to preserve the standard tv ratio. I was unable to figure out how to get rid of this. The HD broadcasts were beautiful but few and far between (this was a few years ago, I know there's more now), and it just didn't seem worth it for all the drawbacks.

After my eye doc told me to get glasses, and I started wearing them, the world started to look like shit when I took them off.
(then again, this coincided with a move to DC)

Ethical question
Friend #1 has grown to loathe and detest the BigFirm job that has him/her working days, nights and weekends. Friend #2 is in charge of an incredibly tedious boring project at his/her inhouse job. Friend #1 apparently wants to quit his/her loathesome BigFirm job and sign on to do the tedious boring project for less than half the hourly rate that current outside counsel (not BigFirm) would charge for a super-junior associate.
I suspect that Friend #2 effectively becoming Friend #1's boss will result in the crashing and burning of the relationship. And that Friend #1 is suffering a psychotic break.
They want advice.
Thoughts?

Perhaps in her experience, men do always use it.
Pretty sure it's passe, now, and people are going retro with pumps. Or so Hank tells me.

To the nets, though, it seems like not having one is a waste of money. It's all a question of how many commercial breaks they've already had in the quarter or half. If too much time has gone by without a break, they'll take two. It's the equivalent of the tv timeout in college basketball, or the mandated timeouts in the NBA.

Or the 78 TV timeouts in ND football games.

No. I actually wanted to know why you liked that piece of crap. You got offended because I disagreed with you about the movie and then you somehow managed to take it personally. Because you took my criticism of the movie personally, you thought you would "get" me with an attack on my avatar and the movie it's from, which is stupid. I said so. You thought you nailed me again because I post a lot.
But you sure got me with your plan to get photos of badass black men up on the board. That's probably the first time...oh wait. No. Typical lazy response is to find a funny looking black guy and say, "Hey, you're black. This is you!" You weren't even the first to invent this.
All of this leads me back to the following: Spend more time studying movies that show you what reality looks like.

FYI, if you're looking for the Nike Warriors ad:
Then click on "Watch the TV Ad".
