I'm outside it, but it has always struck me as more "human interest" story of this one team's incredibly futile yearly attempt to get over the hump. A rivalry has to have mystery as to outcome.

I am sorry Less, but this is way more manspinsterish than watching educational dog show programming, whjic, by the way, is a sport.

1. Not watching, but tivoing and being upset about the result being spoiled. I know you love revisionist history, though, so ...
2. Anything is better with action on it, but I still can't watch award shows.

Don't feel like it. My point was that the ARod bashing is not a big deal up here. From your post and the images at Boston Dirt Dogs it is obvious that it is a big deal in TCOTU.
ARod's slap was pathetic. He should have taken Slave's advice. At least make it look like it is part of the natural flow of the game. It brought back memories of Dykstra's well-timed 'jump' going from 3rd to home. Dykstra got away with it.
Schilling is annoying. Great pitcher, but annoying. I admire his gutsy performance, but I'm sick of his PR antics. And wearing Tedy Bruschi's jersey yesterday? Ridiculous.
The Sox won because the planets were aligned, hell was enduring a cold front, and for once everyone on the team was playing great ball at the same time. D Lowe had been anything but consistent over the last few years, but his post season was incredible.
The Sox aren't cheap, they're just thrifty New Englanders.

Yes, in fact, I have pointed that out myself. I can tell them apart by looks, but I still don't know which is which by name.

Can you please get rid of your holocaust victim avatar? After watching about ten episodes of Project Runway in a week I am starting to get grossed out by anorexia.

BINGO. Generally, the US approach has been to show everything from middling afar, which doesn't work. You need right up close action, as well as overall distance shots to catch the positioning.

Survivor
I never watch this show, but I might this time. Does any one know (Houston people?) if Jolanda Jones is as big a loud-mouthed bitch as people who have dealt with her in practice tell me?
When is this on? If she already got the boot, tell me so I don't waste my time reading the TV guide trying to find it.

Got room on that rocking chair, Bilmore?
Because I am officially old. I just got an email from some guy (no, not online dating, sorry), saying he was 420 friendly. Until like a week ago, I would have thought that meant he could crew for me. when was this term invented? Just like I refuse to speak jive, I am not speaking numbers. I will not ask for the 411.

In good faith, I honestly don't buy this. I and millions of other Canadians have never had any trouble seeing the puck on tv. I'd like to think we have better eyesight, but I know given the strength of my contact lenses that this is not the case. When Fox first started showing hockey on tv and lit up the puck, it was considered a crazy idea. I don't think it entered too many people's heads that it was difficult to see the puck. You just need good camera operators (there is huge disparity in quality between the camera work on CBC and that on any US station).

While this is true, it is also true that even on CBC, the puck disappears for stretches at a time. If the puck is in a near corner, you're not going to be able to see it; it'll be in a tangle of skates, and it's often impossible to get the shot of that battle quickly enough. Fans who are experienced fans know that's where the puck is, and are not confused. Inexperienced fans have no idea where the puck is or what's going on.
If football were introduced to the American public anew, it would have a similar problem with good play-action passes and certain running plays. Hell even the cameramen get fooled sometimes, and its their job. But nobody ever mentions this, or that sometimes fly balls aren't tracked, or golf balls.
Bottom Line: It's not the inability to see the puck that's the problem, it's a catch-22 of lack of familiarity with the game. And why are fans unfamiliar? Because those producing the telecasts have failed to come up with compelling story lines and colorful characters. We need Josh Schwartz running things pronto. That, or get rid of the fucking helmets.
