Yes, I should have been clearer (billing today, ugh). The rationale for not being gay seems to run along the lines of mmm's logic: If it's only once or occassional, maybe (the married man getting the blowjob from another man hopes) it's just a one-off (heh) event.

ETA: A post to bolster my point: http://boston.craigslist.org/rnr/70293532.html

It's like the old joke:

Q: How do you know that your roommate is gay?

A: His dick tastes like shit.

Yeah, but you have to learn to sublimate it, be sensitive and shit.

It's like when you're in makeup, and the theatre chick assisting you says, "Oh, Gatti -- you just have the longest eyelashes!"

And you fix her with that soulful look your character uses right before he gets garrotted in Act II, and it's all over, bay-bee.

Still, I think that lesbian experimentation is a lot more common than male gay experimentation, but maybe I'm wrong. I don't know of a scientifically accurate way to determine which is more common, though.
I think you'll probably find research here.

See also Kinsey's studies

Bisexuality
Males:
Kinsey estimated that nearly 46% of the male population had engaged in both heterosexual and homosexual activities, or "reacted to" persons of both sexes, in the course of their adult lives (p. 656, Male).
...

Females:
Kinsey found only a very small portion of females with exclusively homosexual histories. He reported that between 6 and 14% of females (ages 20-35) had more than incidental homosexual experience in their histories.
I think that it's more socially acceptable for women to talk about experimentation within their genders than men.

I think that this is a Craigslist thing everywhere, and I parse it more as gay guys posting saying that they will give "str8"* guys blowjobs, on the idea that a guy getting a blowjob doesn't really care if it's a guy or a girl giving it to him and that, and that "str8" guys will go for it. People post about it and hilarity ensues.

I don't think that many straight guys do, but I figure people can try whatever they want to get laid. I'm cool with that. Whatever floats your boat.

* This seems to be the term for guys who do that. No reference to our personal str8, unless that's the meaning he's going for.

Currently, and here. Not everywhere, and not always. When Kinsey did his study, I believe the opposite was true.

And it's hotter too. I tire of the Sidd/TM mangina monologues. I never get tired hearing FBetties asking each other to make out.

I can't get to either of those links from work, and I can't google on that, but isn't Kinsey's research from 50 years ago? And how, if at all, did he correct for difference in reporting rates?

Damnit, wandering around the Kinsey Institute website, I realize that I entered the wrong field.

I wonder if they need any healthcare lawyers to do research there.

ETA: Further research on the subject that mmmmmmmmm brought up.

Abastract of Sexual Behavior September 2004 "Sex Differences in the Flexibility of Sexual Orientation: A Multidimensional Retrospective Assessment" from the Archives of Sexual Behavior

Quote:
Abstract The flexibility of sexual orientation in men and women was examined by assessing self-reported change over time for three dimensions of sexual orientation (sexual fantasy, romantic attraction, and sexual behavior) across three categorical classifications of current sexual orientation (heterosexual, bisexual, and gay). The primary purpose of the study was to determine if there were sex differences in the flexibility (i.e., change over time) of sexual orientation and how such differences were manifested across different dimensions of orientation over the lifespan. Retrospective, life-long ratings of sexual orientation were made by 762 currently self-identified heterosexual, bisexual, and gay men and women, aged 36 to 60, via a self-report questionnaire. Cumulative change scores were derived for each of the three dimensions (fantasy, romantic attraction, and sexual behavior) of orientation by summing the differences between ratings over consecutive 5-year historical time periods (from age 16 to the present). Sex differences were observed for most, but not all, classification groups. There were significant sex differences in reported change in orientation over time for gays and heterosexuals, with women reporting greater change in orientation over time than did men. Bisexual men and women did not differ with respect to self-reported change in orientation.
