Further cementing his place on my laminated list. Swoon.

All I can say is H.E.L.L. Y.E.A.H. I've only ever felt this way reading Sebby's late-night posts, but I think I just found me a new guru.
Last winter, I had the opportunity to overhear a conversation between an author (Mr. Free) and some polite Californians. Mr. Free was on his way to meet up with an ex-girlfriend who had been a helpful psychic channel for some period but then sadly refused to play along with him any further. He was very excited about being reunited with her.

And even avoiding the nationally-common is not a guarantee of unusualness, especially in places like Stumptown proper where literacy is above-average and the weird is prized. There are two little boys in our neighborhood named Solomon. And while neither Magnus's real name nor a current leading contender for No. 2's are in the top 1000, friends have friends with kids with those names. Sigh.

I always had at least one and usually two other girls in my class with my name. It blew, because, with my last name, I was never the first one who was asked what I wanted to be called, and therefore frequently got stuck with some stupid teacher-chosen nickname to "distinguish" me.

My three favorite girls names not only do not appear in the top 1000, I have not been able to discover anyone currently living in the US with any of them. Of two of those, so far as I can tell, one has been given to about 40 girls in France over the last century, the other to about 15. The third, I haven't found anyone who's used it since about the year 700 (though, given the name, I admit there's a reason for that, love it though I do).

Freakonomics has a pretty amusing section on baby naming, socio-economic status and naming trends, actually. (And I recommend it again.)

RP evidently gets it . . .

BTW, from the Washington Post, how to pick a classy name.

Them's some odds. Which reminds me, what's the line on the Pistons to win the series?

I have no idea if he's going to name his son Evan or not, but how exactly does the above sound to you? You should say it out loud using your kid's name sometime (even if it's not top 50 and therefore boring).

RP is right. People shouldn't tell anyone their name ideas until it is a done deal.

I googled this -- he is 5'10"

I really thought he seemed taller than that.

The height thing (among other things) keeps me from being attracted to people like Cruise, Jude Law, Orlando Bloom, etc. Doesn't stop me from liking Colin Farrell though. I totally love Vince Vaughn -- it must be the height.

For the record, the only reason I commented in the first place about Str8's name choice is because it instantly made me think of Joe Millionaire, and that's not a great association.

I have a name strongly associated with a religious faith other than mine. That's been kind of annoying, and I've often wished my mother gave me a more jewish-sounding name.

The Brazenette has one of those names that was super popular when we were all growing up (which makes sense since she's named after my best friend). Despite that fact, she's never had another child in any of her classes or playgroups with her name... lots of moms, but no one her age.

Fair enough. Here's my guesses about A-listers' height, male and female. These are mostly pure guesses, but having walked by him once, I swear, Cruise isn't as short as you think. Note, Ben Affleck should not be on this list. He is fairly tall, however.

Russell Crowe (1/5 of 30-odd foot = 6'?)
Will Ferrell (6'4")
Denzel Washington (6'1")
Nicole Kidman (6'0)
Tom Hanks (5'11")
Brad Pitt (5'10")
Cruise (5'9")
Matt Damon (5'9")
Harrison Ford (5'8', probably not A-list anymore)
Julia Roberts (5'7")
Jude Law (5'7", also probably not A-list)
Lollipop head (5'3")
Will Ferrell has stated he is six three but I woulda thought taller too. Tom Cruise is 5'7" on a good day. Brad Pitt is 5'8" tops, probably less.

Harrison Ford and Jude Law are very disappointing. Sucks the hotness right out of them. Have you seen Jude Law in person?

Today I am reading everyone's links and quoting from them until I either get some motivation to do work or get fired. I am leaning toward fired.

"Sharon Johnson and her husband, Martin, named their son, now 4, True Solomon and their daughter, now 1 1/2 , Honor Psalm."

Why not just go all the way and name the kids God's Righteous Wrath On All Fags and Jesus BoBeezus?

Jesus was a Jewish name originally.
