Since I gather that you agree on the science, I take it that your objection to people pointing this out is that we ought not be trying to score partisan points during a national emergency. On one hand, I agree, and was trying to say something like that yesterday. On the other hand, the Bush Administration has gotten such a free ride from the press for years now that it's nice to see, e.g., journalists actually pointing out that the president was dead wrong when he said that no one thought the levees would break. And this admininistration has hardly been adverse to exploiting 9/11 and the war in Iraq to score partisan points.
I really, honestly, wish you guys would be about and for something. when you lose 3 more senate seats the imbalance will be getting too great. Its already too great. Can't you see the blame Bush shit isn't getting you anywhere?

  • Both the Clinton and earlier Bush Administrations had made wetland protection a priority, but the current Bush Administration has not announced any comprehensive wetlands policies.

Please tell me you aren't surprised by this.
It's non-responsive. Read the articles I've posted. The problem is not one of wetlands policy, but rather the long-standing policy of paving every navigable riverbed in the south.

ETA: If you wanted to protect the wetlands, you'd do as Clinton would to thousands of western farmers: tell them they can't develop the land. Unfortunately, that would mean moving everyone out of New Orleans and the surrounding bayou. The one thing going for that, however, would be it would be orderly. Unless Kelo has a house there too.

Absolutely agree that the Dems need to provide a coherent alternative message to Bush. Luckily, once we get around to it, we'll have all kinds of choices.

Endless choices. Just like my digital cable box. 350 channels of the same tired shit.

Just run Hillary and finish the suicide. Nothing's worse than watching the party dangle at the end of the rope...

One of the great things about America is that we have a two-party system. If you don't want to vote for Hillary, you'll be able to pull the lever for the cat killer.

Aww, Hank, that's sweet.

IIRC, though, in December 2004 you predicted the Dems to be down to 30 seats by 2008. Perhaps now you're saying the Dems losses will be less apocalyptic, or maybe your earlier prediction was influenced by a little too much fire water and war paint. Tough to tell.

Although the level of corruption within NOPD is notoriiously worse than those other cities.
Chicago has got to be up there. Ever hear the tale of how I showed up at a south side precinct house at 3 AM to provide pro bono legal aid representation for a young lad accused of possession of a relatively small amount of a controlled substance?

The desk officer pulled a gun and told me to "get the fuck out of here because that nigger doesn't need a lawyer". Interestingly the speaker was white and his black colleagues thought the whole thing was funny. So sometimes it is acceptable for a white person to use that word.

eta: And Seattle. That's a police force where a line of a hundred riot geared and heavily armed officers stood and watched as Mardi Gras rioters beat a good samaritan to death. It was too dangerous for them to do anything. Talking about a group needing bullets between the eyes.....

If those are the choices in the next election, I'm going to do whhat every patriotic decent American male should do behind that voting screen...

I'm going to TCB all over the levers.

Together, we can paralyze the voting apparati of this nation and force the parties to bring us something better than a felinocidal Jesus Nazi and a Socialist Motordyke.

It would also end most US agricultural and industrial exports. With no city there to support the POSL, the fifth largest port in the world ceases to oerate, and the primary bulk transportation system for 2/3 of the country stops functioning.

Which is why the levees and wetlands at the mouth of the Mississippi delta are and should be the concern of the US, esp. DHS, Commerce, etc., and not solely the responsibility of the mayor of NOLA or the governor of LA. It is also why Bush does deserve blame for this.

Perhaps, but given that even Tulsa Oklahoma is a deep-water port, I suspect we could find alternatives, even if they're further up the Mississippi. Or if you turn the area into an industrial park like northern New Jersey.
