Actually, now that I think of it, my youngest brother went to a school that used the Scots as their moniker/mascot. Is that offensive too? Does it change things if the school was named after a Scottish saint?

Haven't given it much thought. But if the Quakers are pissed off about it and have a good argument, I'll listen to it.
Now, I have an honest question for you: Where do you stand on the Indians?
Because it reminds me of:

I don't have a strong opinion one way or the other. Honestly.
But I think I'd be really offended if someone fielded the Long Island Heebs or the Boca Raton Kikes. So I can see your point.
And I agree with you. St. Johns' change to the Red Storm wasn't such a big deal.

Anybody know the purpose of the fake names? MR?

I don't know the purpose, but I got emails from Shallot H. Brainstorm and Gladful B. Interstices.

Now, this is the type of attitude I never understand. If it were the Jersey City Jews and the mascot was a jewish person with a big nose and a yarmulke, you would be pissed off. But a red-faced Indian with a feather in his hair and a ridiculous smile, you can take or leave. Both of those things seem fucked up to me.
Whatever.

What's your stand on top-shelf martinis?
Does it change if you know in advance I won't blow you?

Personally, I can't believe no one has made a bigger stink out of it. I find it offensive, and I'm not even Native American. When Stanford changed its mascot from the Indians to the Cardinal, I didn't quite get it since Indian is just generic and not specific to any particular tribe. And the logo was pretty non-descript. However, having read your quote of that article, I do remember some flack about how there was a lot of reference to the Indians being "massacred" in the press. I can see how that would be offensive.

Would it also affect your decision if you knew that the above statement is a big fat lie?

Truth is, if it were the Jersey City Jews, I'd be offended. But I'm also pretty sure I'd be unwilling to lobby to have it changed. So I'd be pissed and indifferent. Which is really, not much different than how I am now.
