Mine either. We considered hyphenating, but then decided against it. First, the thought of subjecting a kid to a hyphenated name and the attendant ridicule was too much to bear. More importantly, the bullshit one had so wade through to legally change one's name made keeping her name that much more appealing to Mrs. dL.
I rather like my last name a lot. The only reason I could see changing it is so I'd have the same last name as my kids.

I think it she kept her name for professional reasons, mostly -- partly because she comes from a family of all females (sort of the "last of the line" concept, though this never made sense to me) -- and I am certain it's partly because people fuck up the pronunciation of my family's surname all the time. . .

ONly way I change my name is if I marry someone named "Stoner" or "Whiffenpoofer" or something equally amusing. But I have a cool name.

Another option would be to give your kids your last name.

Of late, the dudes on my desk have taken a peculiar (to my mind, anyway) interest in why I didn't change my name to my husband's when we got married. I do use my husband's name for the kids' school stuff (e.g., when I signed up for a parent/teacher conference today, I used my first and his last name), but it's not "official" or anything. Is this really all that strange?
Most of my friends back home did not change their names, and it rarely gets questioned. I was never questioned there. Here it gets questioned all the time. This is either because Americans like to ask questions and Canadians do not (entirely possible), or it is more accepted there than here (also entirely possible).

My boyfriend thinks it is weird that I didn't change my name to my husband's. I told him that he is the weirdo and I wouldn't change my name to his if I married him. Then I gave him a blowjob, as is my wont.

This just reminded me of something. I once saw in one of the local newspapers, a wedding announcement where the woman had a last name like "Smith" or something, and she married a guy named George (or something) Hitler. No shit.

And I remember thinking to myself, now that is true love, if a woman affirmatively decides to spend the rest of her life as Mrs. Hitler.

It's not so bad. You get used to it after a while.

Impossible according to our spacetime continuum.

You overlook the exception to the space-time continuum. Sebby's swimmers ODed on a speedball in the basement of Theta Delt in 1991. Then they were crushed by the crumbling of the beeramid, thanks to the drunken backswing of Whiskey Bottle Cat.

I also predict Sequels COltrane pops one out before Mrs. Zipper Cat.

A "timestream" assumes time only moves in one direction, or that it flows in any direction. It does not.

2.

[true story] Normally I am a progressive, but I just assumed my first wife would take my last name. A month before the wedding the issue came up in earnest, and she was balking. For a two day period the wedding was actually off, but then we decided on a compromise. We would compete to see who took the other's last name. If I won, she took mine, and if she won, I took hers. I suggested a sporting contest, a pure physical contest, a (metric)mile running race on the track. At first glance this did not seem fair as the only chick in Chicago at the time, whom I knew of, who was faster than me was Jenny Spangler. So, being a sportman of the fairest order, I agreed to spot her 800 metres. I nipped her after the last turn in the final 50 with a ferocious finishing kick in 4:21. My fastest mile ever (hi coltrane). [/true story]

If it makes you feel any better, with the way these kids are today, she was probably only commiting for the next 5 or so years unless he did something really eggregiously bad before the end of that period.

The rest of her life. Ha.
