Because I am completely out of material, I'm afraid it is time for me to announce my retirement. I plan to start a blog, but it will be the most boring blog ever. I will sell boring coffee mugs, boring t-shirts, and boring thong underwear . . .
Heh. Boring thong underwear.
I still have it!!! No retirement for me!

Plus, you know in a week or so Slave will be itching to resume his George/Martha/Virginia Woolf fueled arguments with an-lover, and you'll be back in gold material.

The big firm is obviously trying to break into this area of the law, which is your bread and butter. Few people who get the client bulletin will actually bother to read it, but they may remember it when they have an issue relating to this area of the law and decide to call Big New York Firm.
Would you call Big New York Firm and point out their glaring and potentially dangerous error, out of professional courtesy? If you got such a call, would you send out a correction?

No Fucking Way. Do you think they'd call you up to advise you of the correction?

How do you make any money off of them? They'd be so small, you couldn't charge very much for them.

Question: Anyway some 1st year doesn't get fired over this? The only question is really whether the senior associate who oversees content goes down alos, isn't it?

Otherwise, how do I overcome the fact that the two bullitens are going into the same folder, and the prospective client may still go with Big New York Firm, because its Big New York Firm?

You don't call them out on it publicly or call the New York firm privately. You tell your client and all your other clients that the big New York firm made a huge error -- the kind of error that big New York firms tend to make because they have inexperienced, overworked, know-it-all junior associates working unsupervised on matters that are important to the clients you value. Keep a copy of it so you can do this over and over again. Hopefully they'll carry over the same stupid mistake next time too.

I'm sure Big New York Law Firm has a nice disclaimer on the bulliten that says something like "this bulletin is not intended, nor should it be used, as a substitute for specific legal advice regarding particular factual situations" that the first year can point to.

As far as reality show pitches go, I've been saying for years that someone should do a "Real World" type show about a handful of D.C. Interns living together. Might be a logistical nightmare to film, but you get crazy idealistic work-hard/play-hard gunner-types, and show them going out to D.C. happy hour every night, should make for some good TV.
