Remember that reality show that was pulled last year for allegedly violating the Fair Housing Act. Turns out that the gay couple won the house.
Quote:
The producers say that it is worth noting that a show that exists mainly to dispel people's tendencies to prejudge strangers was itself a victim of prejudgments. They also note that in a universe of failed reality-show relationships, this experiment has actually succeeded, yet only out of public view.
Since September, when the Wrights moved into their four-bedroom home in the Circle C Ranch development in southwest Austin, they have had standing Friday-night dinners with one neighborhood family (the Stewarts) and Sunday-night dinners with another (the Bellamys), whose twin teenage daughters are now their son's regular baby sitters.
Meanwhile, the neighbor who was the Wrights' earliest on-camera antagonist - Jim Stewart, 53, who is heard in an early episode saying, "I would not tolerate a homosexual couple moving into this neighborhood" - has confided to the producers that the series changed him far more than even they were aware.
No one involved in the show, Mr. Stewart said, knew he had a 25-year-old gay son. Only after participating in the series, Mr. Stewart said, was he able to broach his son's sexuality with him for the first time.
"I'd say to ABC, 'Start showing this right now,' " Mr. Stewart said in an interview at his oak kitchen table. "It has a message that needs to be heard by everyone." (Mr. Stewart first discussed his son publicly with The Austin American-Statesman.)
While other ABC shows have gay characters - including the new comedy "Crumbs" - "Neighborhood" features a real gay couple and their prospective neighbors in a continuing dialogue about homosexuality, including interpretations of the Bible.
|
The producers of the show think it was pulled because ABC/Disney didn't want to piss off the religious right when they were wooing the Christians with Narnia.

Why? If my lunch room and lunch ladies didn't look like they did, I would have loved to have that option in school.

Can you tell I really don't want to work?
I'm full of all sorts of interesting tidbits today.
Quote:
The BBC plans to mark the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ this Easter with an hour-long live procession through the streets of Manchester featuring pop stars from The Stone Roses and Happy Mondays and featuring songs by The Smiths and New Order.
In the programme, called Manchester Passion, a character representing Jesus will sing the legendary Joy Division anthem Love Will Tear Us Apart before dueting his arch-betrayer Judas on the New Order hit Blue Monday, according to senior church sources involved in the production.

I'm in awe over this.

I'm disgusted. The world would be better off if terrorists killed everyone involved.

Oki Dogs? Wow, you are part of the stay up past 2 am crowd I see. Skooby's now rules the roost for hot dogs, although Oki Dog is within walking distance (barely). Don't know of Chris's, but my Santa Monica burger fave is The Counter.

You'd only need one hand grenade to off the audience.

I Am A Racist Fuck
For those who did not scroll past the discussion on wrongful convictions, I would suggest reading this Slate article on bias testing. Interesting stuff.
Or you can skip the article and take the test here: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/index.jsp
According to the (Racial Bias - there are several other tests) test, I am moderately biased against African Americans (or in favor of White Americans, I forget which). I'd be interested to see the results of others, just to see who the liars are. I'd also be interested to see slave's and penske's results on the Arab Muslim bias test.
