I usually rely on Consumer Reports to get me started on what appliances to consider and which ones to avoid. But they don't rate the nicer (er, unreasonable overpriced) appliances. Are there any magazines or websites that have research about products like subzero, viking, thermador, etc.?

I have to buy a refrigerator. Any suggestions? It does not need to make ice, dispense water or whistle The Star Spangled Banner while distilling a tropical fruit sorbet. It should be stainless steel and energy efficient.

It's no longer about the frig but instead about the cabinetry. Get any old built-in for $6 or $7K and have a cabinet maker do a custom Indian rosewood and brazilwood inlay on mahogony, and your guests will know they are in the presence of a big leaguer when you bring them into the kitchen. Just make sure the staff keeps that wood buffed and oiled.

I'd look here. If they don't answer your question, post it and you'll get plenty of feedback. Many of the best professional cooks in America post there regularly.
