Why did it take until Libby's trial for that fact to come out? Why didn't the white house immediately explain what happened?
Because the President had publicly sworn to go "find the real killer" and fire the leaker's ass. Then his folks actually told him who at the WH had been talking to the press (Rove and Libby, at Cheney's urging). Then (within 48 hours of his first announcement) the language started to change -- he would fire "anyone who broke the law." Draw your own conclusions.

But it is all really George HW Bush's fault -- two alternate theories:

(a) if he hadn't broken the "read my lips" pledge, his lunatic conservative base wouldn't have all-but abandoned him and Clinton would not have won in 1992 -- and since everything that has happened since is Clinton's fault -- its's really all Bush I's fault.

or

(b) If he'd worn a damn rubber we wouldn't have Bush II.

So, its really all RR's fault, for making Bush I his VP . . .

Wait, I thought you regularly voted for these neanderthals?
The economic policies of another wing of the Neaderthals' favored party benefit me. The only sure fire way to ensure I can do what I want is money. I'd rather pay for more freedoms which, lets face it, is what you can do in this country, than trust the govt to give them to me. Cynical? I'd go with "rational."

We should support the Neanderthals in certain regards. If our commitments continuing building while our revenue drops, those Neanderthals will be the sword we need to lead the charge against raising taxes on the middle class to pay for all the entitlements our idiot politicians have promised us. Of course, that will test whether the Neanderthals are true small govt advocates or just hypocrites who'll cry for their luxurious benefits like everyone else.

So far, the returns aren't promising -- but we haven't really hit crunch time yet.

Unproven, and by crying to the press, they've become celebrities and they've received book/film deals.

Hardly a "wrecked" career.
Celebs? Nobody outside Vanity Fair's readership and a pack of windbags on the Upper West Side and in California give a flying fuck about that pair of gilded Beltway publicity hounds. Political types in DC can't even stomach Wilson and his wife.

In a perfect world, Wilson would challenge Libby to a duel and both would win.

When someone suggests that poor Kansans who vote with you are "irrational," Hank says they're effete, coastal snobs who don't understand the things that are truly important in life. In other words, Hank thinks you're irrational. A word to the wise.

Senator Brownback was on NPR this morning. I hope he wins the Republican primary.

WTF? You drag all of California into this? I think it's limited to UWS and inside the beltway.

It is a cool map. I looked at the other ones but couldn't find an explanation of where the European one came from.

Comment #3 here says it came from a professor at UT-Austin.

That's true, and that was unfair. Substitute "Berkeley" for California.

Thank you. We here in Southern California only care about it to the extent it can be made into a profitable movie. Or an award-winning movie. One or the other, preferably both. I don't even think there's much of a market for obscure political porn, and off the cuff I can't come up with a good porno name from any of the people involved.

If I knew anything about Berkeley, I would suggest some smaller sub-portion of it, but I don't, so I can't.

Ah, Berkeley. I loved living there.
