It seems like single-family housing has recycling with their trash pickup -- this is how it was in Dallas, too. I don't get why single-family housing is apparently required to be offered curbside recycling, but multi-family (where there is more recycleable trash produced per square foot) is not. It's really annoying.
We're going to the big mixed bins here, but they are not including glass. So the neighbors can still see how much wine/gin/whiskey I go through. Thankfully, I've got a keg in my basement, so they can't count the beer bottles, too.

Or reuse the bottle. What is bottled water other than a cheap plastic bottle that costs 99c? Spend another $5 and you can be a Nalgene hipster.

there was an article a while back about the harmful amount of plastic that bottled water generates...

I don't mind filtered water. that is what my firm has.

I generally don't here, because the tap water is good. But in a lot of places, the tap water tastes like ass.

In San Francisco, the recycling folks were Seinfeldian Soup Nazis. I am pretty sure that all of the items I place in a blue bag for recycling get thrown in the dump with the rest of the trash. I don't trust Daly at all. They allegedly sort the trash from the recycling after they unload it from the trucks. Right.

I take pride in the rattle of glass in my recycle bin. I like to show up my goody-two-shoes, tea-totaling neighbor.

Didn't you read the link? Those bottles have value. Daly isn't sending them to the dump. If questioned, he'd say he's sending them to the dump, but he's got a little side recycling business that they're actually going to.

In Houston, I'm happy with tap water. In central Texas, the well water is a little too mineral rich to drink. We have to clean out the shower heads every other day or so to get rid of all the gunk that accumulates. Filtering at the tap helps a little, Brita helps a little more, but it's just not great drinking water.

It is worse. It is water stripped of all minerals and all else. It is dead water for soulless people. But Ollie is right -- if the choice is between bottled water and tap water of questionable quality, I guess go bottled.

The tap water here tastes like warm moss, and drinking these would crimp my otherwise fabulous standard of living.

The evils of the bottled water industry were part of the focus of the May Day Parade by the local hippie puppeteers of the Heart of the Beast. I found these photos on the Daily Kos, which is apparently a hippie blog:

Good point. For a mayor who likes to remind people of how green he is, King Daly's recycling system is embarrassing.

A friend of mine plans to follow a garbarge truck to determine if their really is any sorting going on.
