normally i would privately chastise you for correcting dtb on any language-oriented issue. however, here the only response is W-A-T-E-R. dtb mispells a word that means "memory aide." you couldn't see she was being ironic?

I like Korma. With cashews.

They frequently serve that at Thai restaurants, but it's actually an Indian dish from the Mughlai region. I thought it important that you know.

Korma refers to a cream sauce thickened with nuts, typically cashews.

I recall that it is some Helen Keller reference. I translate it in my mind to "whiff." That is all that I understand.

Many thanks. You should know that there is not a Mughlai region; rather, Mughlai cuisine refers to the cuisines of the Mughals, which would blend the Persian influences of the Islamic Mughal conquerors with the native cuisine of Northern India (particularly the Hindustani region).
I thought it important that you should know.

I recently attended a Bryan Garner revival meeting where he shared with us an amusing anecdote about a prior attendee who had sent him an e-mail thanking him for his course, and specifically thanking him for all the helpful "pneumonic" devices presented in his course. Garner then noted, with mock dismay, that pneumonic was a derivative of pneumonia. Oh, how we chuckled.

Bryan Garner would critique your informative post as follows: Either you should substitute "who" for "which" if you are trying to say that the Mughals blended Persian cuisine with native Northern Indian cuisine or, if you did mean "which" and were referring to the "cuisines of the Mughals," you should say "which was a blend of the Persian influences . . . ." since the cuisines were not doing the blending but rather were a result of the blending.
I do not think it is even remotely important that you or anyone else should know this.

I have the same reaction to Guernica references. I remember when it happened, wasn't really paying attention, and didn't get it.
Since then, it reappears from time to time, and I always feel like I'm supposed to laugh politely, like at a dinner party where your client tries to tell a joke but uses the wrong punch line.

Did he regale you with his "How may I be of assistance?" and "It's in the garahhhh" stories?

This is why I do not invite clients to dinner parties. Of the many skills I possess, polite laughter is not one of them.
Bryan Garner would probably suggest I change the last sentence to make it shorter and crisper.

I missed a few minutes here and there due to pressing client business, but I do not recall the "assistance" story, although I can just imagine what he would say about that phrase. The second one rings a bell. Give me more details.
