And that's where E/O and Penske come in . . .

[SIGH].....
Having said that, reading your use of "bad" in the context of the string of posts, I am reminded of H.L Mencken's comment on Warren G. Harding's writings, to wit,
"It is so bad that a kind of grandeur creeps into it." NPI.

On some wines. On others the prices aren't good at all. It's a very mixed bag.

I hate bookstores. Half of what they sell isn't even true.

I totally agree. And it will be so easy to transport and for the guests to eat (on soft potato rolls or ciabatta, mmm!).
By the way, the pork shoulder of a couple of weeks back was fine - not freezer burned. It would have made grr-eat! had I not actually burned it in the slow cooker. (The moment at which I should have turned the pot off occurred during an unusually long nap, and when setting the timer I failed to account sufficiently for the fact that I only had about 2 1/2 lbs of pork.) Very sad, indeed, especially given that I actually put the effort into searing the motherfucker before putting it in the crock. I haven't had many kitchen disasters in recent years, the last one I can remember is when I mistakenly used baking soda instead of corn starch in an attempt to thicken watery chili. Kablooey. (I knew that using corn starch to thicken was a culinary crime punishable by violence.)

slow cooker redux
I made a meatloaf yesterday in the crockpot that turned out quite yummy. However I have my first Big Crockpot Question. I'm using a cookbook that contains recipes for different sized cookers. I have a 4 quart one. This is the second recipe that I've adapted from a 5-6 quart recommendation and while the proportions have worked out fine, I'm totally confused about how much to adjust the cooking times. Clearly things are cooking faster in the 4 quart pot. Is this something I just need to monitor closely or is there someone here who has experience with this and can recommend how much faster I should be checking to make sure all my meat isn't totally overcooked?? TIA.

It might be more a factor of how full the crockpot is than the size. I was reading the instructions on my new one last night and they warned not to fill it less than 1/2 full or more than 3/4 full. One of those things could make things burn but I don't remember if it was not full enough or too full. But I am leaving the crockpot to cook while I'm at work for the first time ever. I was a little stressed about whether mine was too empty so I added some carrots at the top and now am stressed that it is too full. ![EEK!](http://www.lawtalkers.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)

In my recent experience, not full enough will make it burn (motherfucker, burn). Too full could keep the food from reaching the core temperature (150, I think) quickly enough to kill bacteria. I don't think carrots will throw it off too much. Probably more of a problem if it's too full because you used too much meat.
