Personally have mixed results with the meat probes--they're quite sensitive to where the probe is inserted and don't read consistently. Have three of them--two versions basically indistinguishable from the winner, but with different branding and a wireless one, which never seems to be all in one place and with usable batteries for both ends. Find ourselves double-checking with the thermapen anyway.

Never mind--I just discovered that, although the results of the reviews are not available to non-subscribers online, they do give the date the review was published in the magazine, so I can easily look it up.

Careful -- those have been known to cause KitchenAide mixers to overheat to the point of damage. You have to keep an eye on how much the motor is straining.

Okay, the only one I couldn't find was the stovetop popcorn poppers. Online said December 06, but it wasn't in any of the November-December or January-February issues. Anyone know which one they recommended? Anyone have any further input on stovetop popcorn poppers?

A friend recently did a little review of the ribbed scraper beater on her blog:

Pros: The SideSwipe easily attached to the mixer -- you simply attach it to the beater shaft the same way you'd attach the Kitchenaid attachments. Additionally, the SideSwipe did exactly what it promised to do: it scrapes down the bowl fairly effectively, and there's no need to turn the mixer off and use a spatula.

Cons: The SideSwipe scraped almost a little bit too hard: the silicon blades pushing against the side of the bowl caused the bowl to screw into the base so tightly that it was almost impossible to get the bowl out of the mixer again. It also caused the mixer to vibrate so much that a screw came off! Nothing that a general tightening of screws wouldn't fix, but it was still a little disconcerting that bits of my mixer came flying off. Finally, it's hard to clean batter off the fins. We have a great dishwasher, and I usually never have to rinse anything off. Not so for the SideSwipe.

The recommendation I recall (maybe atk, maybe elsewhere) was a steel mixing bowl and a wooden spoon. Works well.
