have you tried the new 1.2 version to see if that will work?

My entire OS died yesterday. I blame the idiot from [omitted software company] tech support.
I had backed everything up (I thought) to my external firewire hd.
Anyway, after reformatting the drive (don't ask) and reinstalling aqua and jaguar (don't ask), safari 1.2 seems to be working.
I do not recommend my technique.

Just fire the OddMan.
I'm somewhat dreading the upgrade to Panther (which I just purchased).
Any tips, other than not to use your tech support people?

I still haven't done the upgrade since Jaguar has been so stable (except for yesterday) .
My biggest tip is to back everything up (especially your "applications folder") before you attempt it. Finding all your install discs after the fact is a pain.
The OM refuses to touch the mac now that the Dell laptop is linux. If he feels the urge to type command codes, he can do it on his own machine.

iTunes anywhere
In addition to the Airport Express, there's this , from Roku. It actually makes it feasible to see what you are playing from iTunes, by providing you a display. Now, $500 for the larger model is a bit much, but it looks a'ight.

New iPods

some improvements, and a slight redesign, notably the scroll wheel.
Longer battery life and better prices: $300 for the 20GB model.

Safari Crashing
My Safari keeps crashing when I enter text into search boxes. Anyone else have this problem? Is my sole remedy to upgrade to the latest version of OS X? I'm tired of re-searching using Explorer (which is surprisingly stable, but it is a MS product, so I don't like using it if I don't have to).

Have you tried rebuilding permissions? That seems to be the generic cure-all first step.

Cannon fodder for the culture wars.
- Against the advice of me and a dozen others, Erin aka EB bought her Apple iBook today. Even though she is a Republican from the Midwest who thinks the Patriot Act is the best piece of writing since the Memento screenplay, she decided to buy the yuppiest, hippiest, most alternative weirdo computer she could find. "But it comes with an iPod," EB exclaims. I'm surprised it doesn't come a pair of Birkenstocks and a Rusted Root CD. At least she didn't get one of those weirdo desktop ones that all the professors have. The ones with the half globe with an arm sticking out and then a widescreen (below). It looks like a fucking alien or something. When you go to office hours and spot one of those you know you are in for a treat. Mac people are so weird.

Agreed. If using a superior product is "weird" then I am a freak.
