Doctors vs. lawyers; cats vs. dogs.

I was not opining that his original version didn't read better, I was pointing out that it was possible to simultaneously avoid splitting the infinitive and not sound utterly stupid.
Note I'm not asterisking my split infinitive and saying it can't be avoided. My infinitive is split, and I like it that way.

Some of us who write for a living aspire to more than not sounding utterly stupid. But thank you for your suggestions.

this would read better with a comma or some other break after "more". Not to be critical, but first read I took "more than not" to be a phrasing of refering to the subject of the prior post. try reading it with my suggestion.

You're just lashing out because they snubbed ROCK FEST! again this year. Perhaps if you made it a point to subvert the dominant hegemonic narratives of rock a little more often out there in the parking lot behind the ribs place, Donald Fagan would someday consent to favor you with his subtly subversive take on "East St. Louis Toodle-oo."

Question: Could the ABC announces suck the collective dicks of the Lakers any more? I don't have an unbiased ear, but sheesh, at least 80% of what they have to say is Lakers-related.
I hope that Luke Walton doesn't have a single good play the rest of the series, just so that we dont't have to see the smirk of his old man. Bill and Jack Nicholson have gotten more screen time than half of the guys who are actually playing in the game.
What ever happened to Rick Fox, anyway? Is he hurt or something?

I saw much of the 1984 (Tigers) riot, but missed the subsequent Pistons and Red Wings championship year efforts. Hank, any idea how they rated?
ETA: If the Pistons win, maybe some experts from East Lansing can be called in.

He was witty and well dressed. I will miss him.
But stick him in the ground, already. The coverage is too much.

The headline in today's SF Chronicle:
Day Seven: Reagan Still Dead
Ok, not really.
