Of course, because there's money, which is why I figured it was a shakedown to begin with.
But if her concern is how awful it would be to take the stand and have her sexual history paraded out before the courtroom, won't the same concern apply in a civil suit? The defense lawyers move for an early deposition of her asking about all sexual conduct, with the clear import the same will happen at any trial. From what I understand, that could go on for days. Can she hold her bluff long enough to get something more than a token payment, after having cracked on testifying in the criminal case?

It used to be that prosecutors would drop cases when the complaining witness expressed unwillingness to testify voluntarily. Then a bunch of academics decided that this let too many domestic violence perps off the hook, because economically dependent women just wanted their man to cool off for the night in jail, and then he was back earning money for the family and hitting the little woman at his pleasure. So Ps started pursuing DV cases notwithstanding the desire of the complaining witness that the case not go to trial and their primary wage earner not be put in jail for a year or more. And then the academics started wondering about who really benefitted from enforcement of these social values over every relevant person's objection.
Imagine a world in which rape victims are forced to testify against their will. It's a world that's worse than one in which some rapists go free, if only slightly so.

Indeed. The criminal charges have been dropped, but the civil trial will continue.

I think the concern is that compelling testimony from your principle witness is particularly dicey.

And when she is also your princi pal witness, it is dicier yet.

According to cnn.com, the jury has informed the Judge that they may be unable to reach a verdict. No details yet, I saw it on the red Breaking News banner.
ETA: Link to CNN article.

That's probably because the lawyer on the jury is messing with the other jurors' heads.
Granted, I know that there is no hard physical evidence against Scott, but puhleeze. A stranger kidnapped her from Modesto and JUST HAPPENED TO KILL HER AND DUMP HER BODY 40 MILES AWAY ON THE SAME DAY IN THE SAME PLACE WHERE SCOTT WAS ALLEGEDLY FISHING?
Come on. Coincidence?
And when they arrested him in San Diego, while he was attempting to flee to Mexico, he had dyed his hair blonde (pool chlorine my ass) had $10,000 (is that the amount? I know it was a lot - maybe that was OJ) in his car, had his mother's Mercedes and had tabs of Viagra on him. Who takes Viagra to Mexico?

No thank god. That would really suck. There's a doctor/lawyer in the jury. They're saying that the other jurors are probably looking to him for guidance. That's why I believe that lawyers should not sit for jury duty. There's too much influence.
That said, there's a woman on the jury who put off a surgical procedure to finish the trial, but they're thinking she won't be able to stall much longer and so an alternate might take her place.
We get TMI on the Peterson trial here.

Too true.
I sat on a jury once, and the entire rest of the jury turned to me to ask about some arcane point of constitutional law (for a car accident case?!).
Huh?

Eww. That's just a creepy thought - that whole Bob on Viagra thing. I get the willies just thinking about it.
Unfortunately, the jury will never hear about the Viagra as it was deemed too prejudicial. Along with the fact that Scott refused a polygraph.
