Man, 18, Dies in Russian Roulette

A 19-year-old woman fatally shot her boyfriend on Saturday morning while they were playing a version of Russian roulette in a house in Jamaica, Queens, the police said.

The woman, Nadera Samantha Goodson, was charged yesterday with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon, said a spokeswoman for Richard A. Brown, the Queens district attorney.

It was 11:30 a.m. when the pair, who were in the upstairs bedroom, took turns passing a .32-caliber pistol, loaded with a single round, back and forth, a law enforcement official said. Mr. Henry put the pistol in his girlfriend's mouth and pulled the trigger, but the hammer struck an empty chamber, then put it to his own head and did the same thing, the official said. He apparently handed the gun back to Ms. Goodson, who pointed it at his head and fired, killing him, the official said.

Why do they think this was a game of Russian Roulette and not, simply, murder? Can someone please explain why they would assume this? Can I just empty my gun of all bullets except one and then shoot someone in the face, call it a version of Russian Roulette and expect the lesser manslaughter charge?

You probably could tell the cops the story, and then when they don't find the victim's prints on the gun, you'll get a chance to explain the rules of the game again.

my guess would be that they found both people's fingerprints on gun, coupled with no signs of struggle. or other evidence corroborating her story. I doubt that the police would just take your word for it. especially after we all mentioned to them that you really didn't care for the victimmmm3587 much.

When I heard this story on the news last night, I was dumbfounded. Not so much for the reason TM states (I confess, I didn't even think of that), but more... WTFingFityF? I assumed that these undoubtedly contributing members of society were engaged in a bit of what they thought was a legitimate form of entertainment. Again, WTFFF?

Then there was the story about the dude in Florida who hired some teenagers to help him kill some people whom he thought had taken his X-Box and some of his clothes. They decided to kill the "thieves" (the news didn't say whether the now-dead guys had actually taken his precious belongings) with baseball bats.

The news is just too depressing to listen to sometimes.

but by her story it was her turn to take the shot. At the best she's a cheater.

I recall that in the film the Deerhunter, Nick (the character played by C. Walken) participated in multiple games of Russian Roulette over about a 3 year period. So I guess that by Hollyweird's standards, RR has a high probability of survivability.

On the positive side, the results here certainly mean one less potential Democrat voter. Good news for Bush in NY.
