I've only been to an Applebees a few times. Is there some sense of difference to it compared to say Chilli's or Friday's? That is, is there a reason that one might drive past a Chilli's to get to Applebees?

Whiny bitch.

'Drama Queen Khorkina Sulks Into Retirement

BIAS ACCUSATIONS

Only three days after describing the winning of her first all-round Olympic medal -- a silver -- as the best day of her life, she was accusing the judges of bias toward American winner Carly Patterson.

"I knew well in advance, even before I stepped on the stage for my first event, that I was going to lose," she was quoted as saying in the Russian media.

"I practically did everything right, still they just set me up and fleeced me."'

__________

What a crazy bitch. I watched her. She looked sloppy and off-balance on the floor exercise and wasn't very good on the balance beam either. She deserved to lose.

Oh, and while looking for a photo of her ugly mug, I found this:

[Photo of her topless. Bleh. I'll note that she is one of the gymnasts who doesn't look like a child. But still, bleh.]

Olympic thoughts

God bless Tivo. I probably saw a good 18 to 20 hours of Olympic coverage this weekend in less than half of that time. Commercials, mens water polo, the gymnastics stuff last night, most of the marathon, most of the backstories were fast-forwarded through.

While I think it was cool that they showed the entire marathon, I would have liked to have seen the Brazil v. Brazil women's beach volleyball match. Women's beach volleyball is rapidly becoming my favorite Olympic sport.

What was wrong with Gatlin and Crawford's behavior during the semi-final of the 100m? What was wrong with Crawford's hat in the first heat? I was beginning to suspect that the announcers were just making up controversy for the sake of controversy. Crawford's "the zebra had a false start" quote was one of the funniest of the entire Olympics so far.

I was really glad that they gave as much coverage to the women's heptahalon as they did. The Swede who won was great to watch.

As of two days ago, the US men's basketball team had the lowest outside shooting percentage of the entire tournament. Fortunately the Russian women had a bad day and they were able to take the low percentage crown away from the US men.

The men's medley relay was a thing of beauty. The team did not suffer for Phelps decision to give up his spot. I also was happy to see Gary Hall, Jr. repeat on the 50 free.

Speaking of the olympics...it seems like this one has a lot of DQs and scoring errors....is it abnormally high or am I just noticing it mroe this year?

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

One of my friends used to date a professional indoor soccer player (I have no idea whether this actually paid the bills or not) and I used to get dragged to games a lot. AFter the game, the local Appelbee's would feed the players for free in order to entice them to come in (and the fans would follow, presumably)...one of hte few experiences in my life where food was free and I still had NO desire to eat it. Applebees seems worse than TFIG, RUby Tuesdays etc....I'm not sure I could even set foot in one today after watching people eat that nasty ass food so many times.

Compared to some of the female weightlifters, the above looks like Anna Kournikova*

Why is it that every favorite who loses whines to their home country press? Is that in the rules somewhere?

* feel free to insert whatever generic babe you wish if Anna doesn't do it for you.

What sort of DQs? I think that there's been one Russian woman (shot put, I think) and one Greek man (weightlifting) who've had medals stripped because of drug use. The only scoring error that I know about is the South Korean who thinks he won the gold in the men's all-around, though admittedly, the only gymnastics I've watched was the woman's individual all-around and the men's team. Those were fairly clean. There was the non-controversy over Aaron Peirsol's 100 backstroke gold, but that was cleared up almost immediately.

Compared to the cough syrup and vault height fiascos from Sydney's gymnastics, I think this one has gone fairly well.

Question: There appears to be no question that the South Korean's parallel bar routine should have had a higher difficulty score. If the higher score is applied, he wins the all-around on points. Should he get it retroactively?

I don't think so. I think that the competition doesn't really exist in a vacuum, and what happens during the competition impacts the rest of the competition. Some of the other gymnasts may have changed their strategy if they'd known they needed higher scores to beat the South Korean. There were protest mechanisms in place, and I think that the South Koreans missed their opportunity to object.

I do feel badly that there could be an asterisk next to Paul Hamm's medal though. One of the things that has bugged me about these games are all the asterisks. Commentators are constantly blah blah blah record blah blah remember it was set blah blah boycotted games blah blah.

The commercials are ridiculous. Last night, Bob Costas announced that the upcoming coverage of the men's 100m finals would be uninterrupted. Thanks, Bob. I enjoyed that solid 10 seconds of commercial-free programming.
