More Political Shit
There's a board for it. I even visit it from time to time. When it's discussed here, it's like the time Hank recorded Meet the Press over my copy of the Ozporns -- interesting, but not what I was expecting to see.
Dave, how are the pictures are in Jenna's new book?

no it's not. the exact same incident, not issue, incident, was fully debated by Ty and me 3 months ago on Politics. you may recall I won by backing him into checkmate with a variation of the Oberheim gambit.
Now to see the same points debated by Taxwonk and bilmore, well, there's a certain emptiness. I just wish Taxwonk would go back to threatening to kill people in his posts. Oh! and I like when he talks about tax rates. There's never a bad time for Taxwonk and burger to have a good old fashioned tax rate brawl!

Garden State
I'm not usually one to post movie reviews, but I saw Garden State this weekend and was very impressed.
Zach Braff was very good, then the ending credits rolled and I found out he wrote and directed it. Outstanding.
Natalie Portman looked great doing her slightly-off-kilter-engenue thing, and turning in her best performance BY FAR since The Professional.
The movie as a whole has a Hal Hartley in New Jersey feel, simultaneously enchanted, bemused and horrified by American suburbia. The audience feels both connected with the characters yet distant.
Definitely worth a watch, although its the type of movie that could wait for video (no special effects, etc.).

It ranges from 20somethings to little old ladies like Marjorie Johnson (who is about 4 feet tall and a zillion years old and is a periodic guest on Letterman and other talk shows). As competitive as we are, lawyers are naturals.
You're seriously missing out on weird fried foods on a stick. They have some new ones again this year, the most notable of which are deep-fried Reuben sandwich on a stick and battered and deep-fried corn-on-the-cob on a stick. Ugh.

What kind of a culinary know nothing would turn their nose at battered and deep-fried corn? Have you never eaten a corn fritter?
Please, battering and deep frying anything tastes good. Hell, you could batter and deep fry a chunk of my ass and it would taste good.

I love the smell of corndogs in the morning.
The only problem with corndogs, however, is that there is no way to eat one without comming off as a total fucking redneck. Jacques Pepin eating a corndog would look like the heir apparent to Jeff Foxworthy.

I went to the local theater on Saturday afternoon to see Hero.
The place was absolutely packed -- mostly adults, but a few junior high aged kids with their parents, some college students, and the most irritating group of 16 year old boys ever.
Basically, it was like watching the history of China with Beavis and Butthead. The rest of the audience was absolutely rapt and completely silent -- then you would hear "heh. heh. heh. heh."

Bilnaskinomore: Kerry is a liar and a hypocrite!
Tywonk: Oh yeah? Well Bush is both a liar and a hypocrite!
Notpenskeme: Pathetic response. What about the hypocrisy of Kerry, not to mention his tendency to lie?
Attishifter: Looks like someone forgot about the fact that Bush is a liar, not to mention the hypocritical fashion in which he does it.
Hanknotslavemore: Kerry = Liar. Kerry = Hypocrite.
Taxicus Slothshape: Bush lies. And he is a hypocrite.
Notbil Nomore: I am infuriated by Kerry's lies, and his hypocrisy galls me.
Shapeslaveme: Bush is a complete liar. Kerry is a disgusting hypocrite.
Wonkmore Tynske: Wrong! Kerry is the real liar. And Bush is so hypocritical, I am appalled.
Grinchshifter Notmenomore: Kerry is neither a liar nor is he not a liar and to hold a contrary view only shows you to be more of a hypocrite than Bush and/or Kerry.
Pennicus Bilwonk: Bush has lied so much, he never lies, and his hypocrisy would equal Kerry's, except that neither is a hypocrite.

My daughter took me to see Napolean Dynmaite for my birthday. So in the theatre is the 3 16 year old boys group and the 3 13 year old girls pretending to be 15 group. It was half empty so they switched seats a few times steadily moving closer, then finally they're all together. The noise level was bad before, but after they got together it went through the roof.
After a bit, I turned and said "Would you watch the movie or go outside to talk" like Constanza in Seinfeld. I have never done that before in my life.
They shut up, and didn't pour pop on me. After the movie I thought they'd hang around to fuck with me, but the boys ran off once the credits started (note- sit through the credits for ND). My daughter actually heard the girls saying how embarressed they were.
I'm sure it was a crap shoot, and odds are good that I could have caught a head full of pop, but it worked that time.

TV in General
Final Olympic Rant - NBC replays some obscure handball match late at night rather than showing the gold medal soccer game. Bastards! The closing ceremonies - yawn. They went on way too long. I did confirm that I am not a fan of Greek pop music. Anybody want to go to Beijing in 4 years?
BBC America - Kumars at No. 42 - fucking hysterical. I recommend adding it to your Tivo list.
