But I'd need to supplement it now and then with some lemongrass beef or pork.

The ladies at the pho place where I go know me by name now. They know I'll be there on Thursday or Friday every week (they only make it once a week), and they don't bother to take my order anymore. They just go to the back, load up a plate of fresh basil, cilantro, sprouts, limes, chiles and mint and hand over a bowl of heaven. I don't know why it didn't occur to me before today that pho would be great for a hangover.

Excuse me, but "proactive" and "paradigm"? Aren't these just buzzwords that dumb people use to sound important? Not that I'm accusing you of anything like that.

My grandmother talks about walking on the streets of Hong Kong decades ago and hearing the sounds of the clacking tiles.

You should take grandma to the slummy parts of Chinatown in SF--same sounds, same smells, and no passport necessary.

My Haircut

So I went to my local hipster barbershop over the lunch hour, more or less (and may I say, I look positively dashing, except for the occasional bit of freshly-clipped hair on my collar or in my ear). Much to my disappointment, they have replaced the free can of PBR with Miller High Life, also in a can. PBR kicks Miller's ass in a shitty American beer battle.

I was also extremely distracted by my rather gutter-mouthed suicide grrl haircutter chick. She was, as expected, well pierced and tatooed. She also had really big tits; nice ones, at that. And she was wearing a black tanktop. Right there, it's pretty hard not to stare. But it gets worse. She sported a large tatoo running from roughly her collar bone to, perhaps, the center point of her ample cleavage. It looked something like this:
____ ____
_____ _____
_____ _____
_________
______
___
_

Edited to note that I can't get the visual to work here; picture an arrow head-shaped series of black bars heading to a point in the middle of her chest.

Okay, that's a bit crocked, but you get the idea. Pretty much a yellow-brick road (actually black, of course) leading directly to her tits. Which, as I've mentioned, were impressive to begin with. I don't think there is any way not to stare.

She gives a good haircut, though.

Uh...what is "pho?" (Meaning, is there anything else in it besides what you just listed?) I thought you meant Phoenix was a great hangover remedy for a quick minute.

Did you ever see Tom Chambers play a home game hung over? KJ? As long as he was at home, Barkley could throw midgets through windows until closing time and feel fresh as a daisy the next day. Ceballos was crazy, but never once hung over during a home stand.

Oh, and pho is Vietnamese noodle soup in a beef broth that supposedly takes forever to make. Good stuff.

It's vietnamese noodle soup. Noodles in beef broth was one or more beef accompaniments like sliced flank steak, brisket or (for the more adventurous) tripe. Flavored with onion and cilantro. Usually served with fresh bean sprouts, basil, hot pepper slices and limes on the side.

Very good, very cheap. Most Pho places in areas with large Vietnamese populations open early in the morning and serve it three meals a day.

Vietnamese soup. It's base is this beef broth that's been cooked for hours and hours and infused with spices and it's possibly one of the most heavenly thing in the world. It's poured over rice noodles and usually some sort of meat and some onions in a massive bowl. They serve the fresh herbs and chili and hoisin sauces separately, so you can add what you want to it (so those with cilantro or chile issues don't really have to worry), and the aroma alone makes me feel good. It's obscenely healthy too. Houston has a massive Vietnamese community, and you can get a bowl of pho for three or four bucks at one of the noodle shops down in Little Vietnam. I'm sort of on a quest to find the perfect pho, and currently Miss Saigon is winning (and they only serve it on Thursdays and Fridays), though Mo Mong is closer to my house and I go there a lot. Van Loc is gaining on everyone though.

Pho Question for Minnesota Mafia

Do any of the multitude of Vietnamese restaurants in the Twin Cities make this? It sounds good.

In DC we would go to a pho kitchen- a place that only sold pho. your only choices were brisket (ordered by almost all the round eyes) or stomach or hoove meat or god know what. We have pho but no purely pho kitchen here(except in windsor). But the treat I really miss, because we don't have it at all, is salted lemonade. That was about the most refreshing thing on a hot day. Maybe i'll search for a recipe!

What a keen observation, but while I would like to fully savor the truth of this post, alas, I cannot. Still when I see your posts, I feel only red anger.Taxwonk, you have yet to apologize to the board for the harm you caused. your banality led directly to both Penske and Paigow leaving. While your pho post is quite informative, i am afraid its value does not equal the harm that flowed from another of your posts.

Whither spartan? where for art thou Paigow?

I believe an admission and apology might help people begin to stop associating you with the great ill you have wrought. FWIW.
