I totally forgot about this movie. Best known for the popcorn scene, the two other things that made it a good movie were the pre-marriage football test and the ass kicking given over something (getting beaned in little league maybe?) that happened 20 years previous.

Other great car chase scenes, for the fan include:

The French Connection and The Italian Job (the original version, with Michael Caine).
A great five minutes in an otherwise horrible movie is the Ferrari car chase scene in Bad Boys II (or the prequel to the upcoming Miami Vice movie).

Speaking of QT, you know in Kill Bill, when Daryl Hannah and Uma Thurman are fighting? And Uma throws the can of tobacco-chew spit in Daryl's face? And Daryl gets this really mean scowl on her face, and then growls, "Gross."?

I love that part.

Also -- it seems as though Daryl Hannah must have had some plastic surgery, because she just looks "different". It's not like it's really obvious in that, if I didn't know what she looked like 10-15 years ago, I wouldn't notice, but she must have had something done.

Since everyone already posted all of the modern classics (the Coppola's, the Scorsese's, the Tarentino's, the Coen's, Swingers, the 2 great John Belushi films), and since everyone should already own Casablanca, let me add these must, must haves:

1) Lawrence of Arabia
2) M
3) the Maltese Falcon
4) Chinatown
5) Notorious

2. Any scene in which a car (ostensibly) flips over, and barely clears, Martin Lawrence's head is not to be missed.

(This was on last night, as chance has it).

2. Where are the Hope Floats? The Sleepless in Seattles? She is trying to buid a DVD collection, not screen the Sick & Twisted Film Festival. What is wrong with you people?

Positively Fifth Street

The new trial of former stripper Sandy Murphy and her boyfriend Rick Tabish for the 1998 murder of casino heir Ted Binion started today. Murphy and Tabish were convicted in 2000, but were able to win a new trial after the Nevada Supreme Court ruled that a an extortion charge against Tabish should have been tried separately and may have unfairly prejudiced the jury.

Binion, a drug addict, was found with a large quantity of heroin and xanax in his stomach. Prosecutors allege that Murphy and Tabish forced the concoction down Binion's throat and before "burking" him in order to obtain a portion of Binion's estimated $55 million estate and other loot. Murphy moved in with Binion shortly after he met her dancing at Cheetah's, a Vegas strip club. The burking scene is described in detail in James McManus's book Positively Fifth Street, a must-read despite the lack of masochists crawling out of trunks.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and Streetcar Named Desire, also. Plus, Cool Hand Luke, Giant, Night of the Hunter, and Lion in the Winter. (Note, I don't own any of these and am now wandering over to Columbia House to rejoin (again). Damn you gwinky.)

Also features the young Kevin Bacon telling his date to fuck or fight. I love that movie...
