I cannot describe how pleased I am that Boston won for the sole reason that the fans have to now shut up. They are no longer the lovable losers - the Cubs are. Boston is now just another Anaheim, Toronto, or Phoenix. Welcome to losing your identity. Wat are they going to talk about over their chowdah and bee-ahs now?

For what it is worth, I'm a baseball purist. This victory is tainted without the Division win. (Still sweet, but tainted).

I don't like wild cards. And I don't like the DH. The presence of the P in the lineup was an important part of the WS games.
FWIW, I was highly impressed the Sox could win even one game with Ortiz at first base.

Yeah. Toughest easy job in sports.

But, he's no longer a good fit for our team. He was perfect for the '96 - '00 teams. But apparently our approach is to now be a team of run producers only. Torre makes the right moves when you have a team of role players - guys who get on base, guys who move them over, guys who get the runner in from third, guys who manufacture runs. A team of pure sluggers is (i) not much fun to watch and (ii) not really his style. If we're going to continue like this, we need Pinella.

TM
2 - about Jeter.

Pinella - in order to get him, you'll have to pick up a really really shitty closer - as he has a soft spot for these guys and will use them in close games. See Bobby Ayala, Senior Smoke aka Jose fucking Mesa, and the Sherrif.

We got screwed on the pitching front this past year. Clemens and Pettitte should have been there, but what can you do? We tried to fill the holes, but the guys we signed couldn't win a big game.
Further, I'm sick of hearing how the Yanks fucked this up.

They offered Pettite an exorbitantly larger sum of money than the Astros did. His wife insisted he move home, so he did.

Clemens retired. Done. We wanted to keep him. He said "golf now!!!" That he is a lying sack of shit - however unsuprising - is not the Yankees fault.

As I see it, the Sox are going to have to built at least 7 more rows above the Monster to pay for #2 and #3 pitchers they need to buy this offseason.

The lower cost of living is one of the reasons I moved back, too. That said, Pettite really didn't do us much good in the post-season.

He was out the entire year anyway. Wouldn't have made a difference, except to Steinbrenner's wallet.

2004. That unbelievable year when all the planets were in alignment. You'll never hear the end of it.

From the film Swingers:

Quote:
Rob: You wake up one day and it doesn't hurt at all. And it's like, and this might sound a little weird, but it's like you almost miss that pain.

Mike: You miss the pain?

Rob: …Yeah. For the same reason you miss her… because you lived with it for so long.

Mike: …You want to go get something to eat?

Rob: Alright, sure.

Didn't they suspect he injured himself (or aggravated his injury) batting, though?

The thing about A-Rod is that he really seems to be bad for his teams. Phenomenal stats, sure, but look at his old teams: he leaves Seattle, they immediately get much better; he leaves Texas, they immediately get better. The Yankees didn't do as well as they should have in the stretch (the fact that Boston made a race of it to the pennant was inconceivable at the break). The guy's good, he's just also dugout poison.

Bill O'Reilly and Andrea Mackris (I would suggest that Mr. Man assume the O'Reilly role). All you need are a loofah mitt and a tape tape recorder.
