Fringey, I have a friend who did her kitchen in terra cotta. She had a black fridge and I can't remember what color her cabinets are. Her counter was white tile. Maybe her cabinets were cherry. I like a sunny yellow. You can use the Benjamin Moore web site to see how a color will look in various types of rooms. There are only two kitchen rooms but one has black and white so it may be helpful.

Another option is wallpaper. With limited wall space, it can give the space a zip without being overbearing. When we fixed up the kitchen in my BIL's house, we used a yellow and white stripe to brighten up a cave-like kitchen and it looks really nice.

In any case, I concur with the person who suggested a warm color. If you go with blue, find one with warm undertones. Benjamin Moore indicates warm vs. cool on the color chips. They also sell small sample sizes of many of their colors so you can try it on your wall without buying a whole quart.

Devine Paints also sells sample sizes of their paints.

My thought is that yes, it is a run-on if "careful" is an independent clause. I can see an argument that it is a dependent clause, but I think it stands on its own. "Implied because" is silly, and fiesty co-worker should be bitchslapped with a grammar text for even suggesting such a thing.

But then I always thought that there should have been a colon in "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." I lost that battle.

Although I decided I could not part with my saab, I bought another car last night...every woman in her 20's needs three cars, right? I ended up buying a honda element. Mr. Bunny has nicknamed it "the lunchbox" because he thinks it looks like a lunchbox with wheels. He just built a huge beautiful brazilian cherry built in to display his lunchboxes. I think the man lives and breathes lunchboxes. His mother just came to town and had gotten him a custom made lunchbox with a picture of him at the top of Denali. I'm finally willing to admit the lunchbox thing is out of control. Just thought I'd share with my sensitive and compassionate internet friends.

I was going to suggest yellow as well. We and three different neighbors all have yellow paint in the kitchens, and the color works well with a variety of cabinet and countertop combinations. While they're all slightly different, most are of a pale lemon variety. Just for the record, we did our kitchen first of the neighbors.

Or you could go full-on 50s to match the tile and do a pink grapfruit pink. Sounds bad at first, but think about it.

It took me 10 minutes to decide which color corkscrew to get. I can't be trusted with tile.

It has been a dark week in many respects - the closing of First Ave is certainly one of them. A Minneapolis institution closed by squabbling among the owners. Hopefully to be re-opened under new management (and a new name??) in January. But, that land is expensive these days, and some argue that a rock club is not the highest and best use of the land. I blame the Evangelical Christians.

The silver lining is that some shows scheduled for First Ave were rescheduled at more intimate venues - so I got the rare opportunity to rock out in plaid, or rather striped, pants last night seeing the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion at the much smaller 400 Bar, another of Mr. Westerberg's old haunts. Thank you ladies and gentlemen! The Blues is number one!

When you say tile, do you mean large (12" x 12") pieces of tile as opposed to a full slab or granite/marble/whetever? I don't think that changes things much. Just make sure to coordinate the colors and go nuts.
