Sort of. I suppose there are different gradations of spinster. I mean, by definition, you're a spinster when you're, what? 35? and unmarried; but when you're 87 and unmarried, then you're an old spinster.
But this is a judgment call, I think.

I fixed it. She's not an old spinster any more.

At my college, the school gyno used to wear one of those headlamp things. We called her the "coal miner". Obviously, we were a sophisticated and clever bunch.

What do you mean, "you," Mme. Smug Married?
spin ster
a woman whose occupation is to spin
archaic an unmarried woman of a gentle family
an unmarried woman and esp. one past the common age for marrying
a woman who seems unlikely to marry

I was all excited that I managed to weasel my way out of spinsterhood until I hit the last two definitions. "Gentle" would never be a word used to describe my family. "Unlikely to marry" and "past the common age for marrying" hit a little closer to home.

You can be my internet second wife if you like. It's big of me to ask, no?

Your proposal reminds me that I have an imaginary fiance out there somewhere, but I can't remember who it is. I think we got internet-engaged sometime in 1999 or 2000, but it's fuzzy and that board died in 2001. He was all excited about my comic book collection and I was all excited about his desire to keep my house clean for me. It would have been a match made in heaven if I could remember who he is.

That is so romantic. I'm beginning to mist up a little.

Really? I was hoping they'd stain my dockers. Oh well.
