The first time I ever had a Coors Light I stopped and looked down at the can, cause I thought I had grabbed a flat soda or something by mistake.
And I too was wondering about that grilled cheese. Would it really look like that after 10 years?

Hmm. I wonder whose vacation plans are going to win?
I feel like throwing stuff. I feel like saying fuck this and walking out. I just threw my stress ball against the wall. Fuck you, stress ball.

I remember you said you work in an obscure area, so one of the 2 of you HAS to be there, right? Have you tried "I'm loyal but this is too much, can't YOU change your week?"
If not can you train some new body to at least be able to issue spot anything that does come in for a week- and you promise to be checking on the phone if necessary. God a week goes quickly. You should be able to get this together by SPRING.

I watched it. A lot of the players were very annoying and I had trouble figuring out who I wanted to lose. That said, I was pleased with the people who lost because one of them really annoyed me.
So, if you think a quality is one in which there are a lot of annoying people on it, the Amazing Race 300 thousandth edition is for you.
If not, then eh.

One would think. He can't change his week. His kid plays for a national team and the world cup is that week (in another country - so he would have to travel to see his son). I would feel terrible if he didn't see his son play because of me. The best result (if I don't get to go) is that I could use this as leverage.

Vacation defense tactics - poll?

Have you (has anyone) tried sticking the firm with, not just the cost of your cancelled vacation, but the cost of the vacations of a group of people who were scheduled to go with you? I mean, sometimes they aren't just fucking up your schedule. I've gotten them to cover the Mr.'s costs (including the costs of rescheduling both of us at a mutually convenient time), of course, but I haven't tried what I think of as the "my 57 person family reunion will have to be cancelled at a total cost of $44,718 so send me a check, please, and I'll bill you for the last-minute rescheduling costs for everyone when we settle on a replacement date; alternatively you can pay to fly them all to NYC and host the reunion at the Pierre since it's so vital to firm business that I remain in town" vacation defense tactic.
I've tried some mild forms of "if you cancel this it is going to cost you through the nose" to convince them to rethink vacation cancelling; I just wonder (i) what variations on that others have found effective, and (ii) what is the largest bill anyone has gotten their firm to swallow for cancelled time.
BR(approx $7500 to reschedule trip home for 2 on 6 hours notice, including donation by firm to charity in name of friend whose funeral I was forced to miss)C

You had me at "$7500", but the firm contribution to charity was the best part.

I couldn't believe what a prick the male "married entrepreneur" with a Ferrari was. He speaks to her like she is a slave, but then he snaps "don't talk to me like that" if she says anything at all. How sad. The female "married professional wrestler" is quite the bitch, too.

We both hated him and wished he would go away. The funniest thing the female "married professional wrestler" said was that it was embarassing that she got beaten by him.

Fringey - FMF no good for you?
CHICAGO - New York Yankees star Gary Sheffield and his wife were the targets of a blackmailer who claimed to have embarrassing sexual videotapes of her and a musician, the slugger said Tuesday.
The Yankees outfielder said his wife, DeLeon, “had a long-term relationship with a well known professional singer over 10 years ago.” Sheffield said he had known about the relationship, which came before the couple married.
The affidavit said Mosley claimed to have two videos that were delivered anonymously to his office. It said he claimed that the tapes depicted the athlete’s wife with a musician and an unidentified woman.

The $7500 was pretty easy to get to (cost of the original two non-refundable tickets, plus $2700 for each of two replacement tickets bought a few hours in advance once the deal was over - fucking price-gouging airlines). We didn't have other reservations with cancellation fees or deposits, or it could easily have been even worse.
The donation was, I think, an actual show of human shame on the part of the partner involved. I have no clue if the firm funded it or if he did it personally. For all I know he may have billed the client for it.
C'mon, I can't be the only person who has made the firm eat my costs for buggering my schedule.

My husband did it a few times. I think the most the firm ate was about $2000 though.
On that note, there is hope on the vacation front! My years of dogged negotiation training are paying off (hopefully). I will keep you posted because I know you are on the edge of your seat.
And nfh, I have met Roger Ebert there and the Pixar guy. Not sometimes-when-we-touch guy.

It's R. Kelly - which begs the better question of "How old was DeLeon was at the time?"
