Fort is masculine, Forte is feminine. The word must have evolved from the feminine adjective because it must have been modifying a feminine noun.
I always thought it evolved from the Italian too, so the above is my best guess.

This is very annoying. People have never "had to take it". Who is forcing these moralistic types to watch tv or log onto the internet? This sounds like a teaching opportunity for our friend Bilmore.

Addiction to porn destroying lives, Senate told
Experts compare effect on brain to that of heroin or crack cocaine.
WASHINGTON - Comparing pornography to heroin, researchers are calling on Congress to finance studies on “porn addiction” and launch a public health campaign about its dangers.
Internet pornography is corrupting children and hooking adults into an addiction that threatens their jobs and families, a panel of anti-porn advocates told a hearing organized Thursday by Senator Sam Brownback, chairman of the Commerce subcommittee on science.
Mary Anne Layden, co-director of a sexual trauma program at the University of Pennsylvania, said pornography’s effect on the brain mirrors addiction to heroin or crack cocaine. She told of one patient, a business executive, who arrived at his office at 9 a.m. each day, logged onto Internet porn sites, and didn’t log off until 5 p.m. (OK, one of you guys fess up).
Layden called for billboards and bus ads warning people to avoid pornography, strip clubs and prostitutes. (hahahahaha)
“We’re so afraid to talk about sex in our society that we really give carte blanche to the people who are producing this kind of material,” said James Weaver, a Virginia Tech professor who studies the impact of pornography.
Brownback, a Republican from Kansas and an outspoken Christian conservative who has championed efforts to curb indecency on television and the Internet, said the public is beginning to realize “they don’t just have to take it.”
But he acknowledged the First Amendment right to free speech has limited congressional efforts. (thank god for the Constitution!)
In June, the Supreme Court blocked a law designed to shield Web-surfing children from pornography, ruling that requiring adults to register or use access codes before viewing objectionable material would infringe on their rights.
Brownback said scientific data is needed to help his cause.
Weaver acknowledged that research “directly assessing the impact of pornography addiction on families and communities is rather limited.”
But he pointed to studies that show prolonged use of pornography leads to “sexual callousness, the erosion of family values and diminished sexual satisfaction.”
Porn is addictive

I hope Kinsey gets an Oscar.
Brownback is the sort of man who you just know masturbates so frequently that his right hand is gnarled like a fucking claw. He's so fucking over the top in his condemnation of everything that just about any hack psychiatrist could document him as a closeted frustrated pedophile from his televised speeches alone.
They oughta have a pack of Stpeford wives and skinny young boys to service the Senate so these assholes could get their frustrations addressed and get on to the business of actually governing the fucking country.
Jesus... I need to get laid myself.

Wow. For a moment, I almost imagined that I was perceiving a bit of outrage rising above the ennui.
It was exciting.

Oh, god, yes. I first saw the trailer for Who Framed Roger Rabbit (as a preview to Beetlejuice) stoned off my gourd. I had never heard of it, so I was really not expecting the FUCKING BABY TO WALK OFF THE SET AFTER ZOOMING AROUND THAT CRAZY STRETCHY ROOM. Damn that was messed up, I was totally freaking.
Needless to say, when WFRR was finally released, the whole movie was enjoyed in the same state.

Bookman lives
Library offenders could go to jail
BAY CITY, Michigan (AP) -- Keeping library books too long could soon land some readers in jail.
Frustrated librarians want the worst offenders to face criminal charges and up to 90 days behind bars.
"We want to go after some of the people who owe us a lot of money," said Frederick J. Paffhausen, the library's system director. "We want to set an example."
Paffhausen, who took over as director in October, is asking the Bay County Library Board for permission to seek arrest warrants for offenders who ignore repeated notices.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/11/19/lib....ap/index.html
Translation: Well, let me tell you something, funny boy. Y'know that little stamp, the one that says "New York Public Library"? Well that may not mean anything to you, but that means a lot to me. One whole hell of a lot. Sure, go ahead, laugh if you want to. I've seen your type before: Flashy, making the scene, flaunting convention. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. What's this guy making such a big stink about old library books? Well, let me give you a hint, junior. Maybe we can live without libraries, people like you and me. Maybe. Sure, we're too old to change the world, but what about that kid, sitting down, opening a book, right now, in a branch at the local library and finding drawings of pee-pees and wee-wees on the Cat in the Hat and the Five Chinese Brothers? Doesn't HE deserve better? Look. If you think this is about overdue fines and missing books, you'd better think again. This is about that kid's right to read a book without getting his mind warped! Or: maybe that turns you on, Seinfeld; maybe that's how y'get your kicks. You and your good-time buddies. Well I got a flash for ya, joy-boy: Party time is over. Y'got seven days, Seinfeld. That is one week!
