My poo is a human creation and its also useless. So I don't think uselessness is the best way to describe the distinguishing nature of art. That said, art can sometimes wrap Snoopy's house. Which puts art in a whole other category, though which one I'm not sure.

If your poo were really useless, you would not mind it staying in your body for ever and ever and ever. But, it serves a very useful function -- getting dead stuff and toxins out of your body. So it is useful!!!!!!

Guernica arguably served a similar function, so I wonder of AG's theorem is right out?

If you were truly up on art you would realize that your poo can be art- if you were thinking it was art when making, and if you displayed it.
Oh, but you can be replaced.... http://www.speronewestwater.com/cgi-...tml?record=155

Art produces ugly things which frequently become more beautiful with time. Fashion, on the other hand, produces beautiful things which always become ugly with time.

Actually, my understanding on why he would rather recycle his art than sell the individual pieces to collectors is so it can go to everyone. His has always been public art.

Oh, I agree - it's just that what I've read of him makes me think that his definition of "everyone" doesn't include the heathens.

I know way too many artists to believe they actually think anything they say in artist statements. Witness my friend Angelbert Metoyer, who btw, has an opening at Gallery 101 in Houston this weekend for those who are interested.

What is it exactly that pisses everyone off about this? It's funded by people who have bought drawings of the project for what I would consider outrageous sums of money, so there's none of My Tax Dollars being wasted. This takes care of gripe #1 on the New York Post crib sheet to editorial writing. It's in a park, which makes the "tying up traffic" complaint one of the stupidest I have ever heard. It'll be gone by the weekend if you don't like orange.
Don't know if I'll see it or not, but I don't particularly care. This project has been worthwhile just to illustrate the knee-jerk reactions I always hear when insecure jackasses are exposed to modern art.
