What will those crazy Canadians think of next?

suing the NHL over the Stanley Cup.

Quote:
A group of amateur hockey players is taking the NHL to court to determine whether somebody can play for the Stanley Cup.

The 'Wednesday Nighters' filed a claim in Ontario Superior Court on Wednesday asking it to clarify the terms under which Canadian Governor-General Lord Stanley donated the Cup in 1892. The NHL season was canceled in February amid a labor dispute.

"The fact that the NHL has suspended its play this year doesn't mean that Canadians and others don't have the right to compete for the Stanley Cup," said Tim Gilbert, the groups' lawyer.

Gilbert said Lord Stanley's intention when he donated the Stanley Cup was to have teams compete for the trophy every year, and a labor dispute shouldn't prevent that from happening.

He hopes the court will force Stanley Cup trustees Brian O'Neill and Ian Morrison to find teams to compete for the Cup.

"We do not take this lightly," said Gard Shelley, an amateur hockey player in his mid-50s. "The Stanley Cup is the greatest sports trophy anywhere, ever. It is unique and a huge part of our culture and heritage."

The 'Wednesday Nighters' initially offered to play for it themselves -- white jerseys against black -- but eventually decided that competitive teams should play for it. They don't even use goalies in their league.

Listen, we've all been watching this happen for a while now, but no one wanted to be the first to say it: these days Flower only comes around to be a hater. It's sad, but until he learns to love himself all he's got to offer is negativity.*

You've been doing so well with the whole "nice" thing so far, and I for one have been quietly rooting you on. Just leave him alone for a while. The last thing we want to see is you getting sucked into Flower's little self-referential vortex of gloom, ok?

He'll snap out of it one day and we'll all have a good laugh, I swear.

Right. Don't get me started on the Flower. He was much different before he got all into humiliation, degradation and any other -tion that you can name. Pity him. He's sick.

It turns out that Kahlen has never had a boyfriend and Rebecacase is probably getting married as a virgin or someone who has never slept with anyone besides her fiancee. I love when Nigel explains that they lack that sexy thing. I wish I hadnt deleted it bc I am wondering if they show Nigel's reactio nto Kahlen saying she never had a boyfriend (this comment came from the shoot where the gals are in wonderbras and underpants "pillowfighting" some gay guy model" and Kahlen just looks uncomrfortable)

barely, care to weigh in on Nigel v Constantine?
I haven't seen this week's episode yet. I haven't noticed him being icky in the past (although I've noticed that some of the contestants have obviously been crushing on him). I don't care what happened in the episode this week, but there is no way that he could ever be squickier than chubby, butt-chin, eye-fucking Constantine.

True dat, ncs. I got the memo. He has gone from this:

I won't argue on the butt-chin and the eye-fucking, but Constantine's no fatty. He's got a weird under-chin thing going on, granted, but he's otherwise on the tall side (see how he towers over Ryan Seacrest) and rather lanky.

Squicky though he may be, he nailed his performance this week. Queen was the perfect choice--Constantine is in many ways a straight Freddie Mercury. Ethnic, attention whore, intense presence, quirky-yet-somehow-attractive appearance (Freddie's buck teeth, Constantine's chin issues), great pipes (don't think he's quite on Freddie's level in this department, but still). I should have taped the show, because I wouldn't mind seeing him do that song again.

I wasn't shocked to see Bo in the bottom three this week--he's been kind of mailing it in for the last few weeks. Scott Savol once again got a huge gift--he deserved to be eliminated more than anyone except for Anthony. Nadia is lovely, but not vocally up to snuff. She went home earlier than she deserved to, but only by two or three weeks at most.

Anwar needs to keep going in the direction he's heading, of greater feeling in the music. He really does have a great instrument--huge range and flexibility, well-centered pitch--he just needs to connect better with the audience.

Why does she insist on not washing her hair? Her downward spiral into fugliness seems unstoppable.

Her hair is the least ugly thing in that picture. Her husband is more hideous than the floor of that dirty ice cream shop. And he reminds me of somebody and I can't think of the name.

Also, why is he wearing one of her maternity tops? Sympathetic weight gain?

Close. I had thought it was somebody famous, but now I realize it was some freak from the backwater who worked at my old company and does civil war reenactments in his spare time, and had a civil war motif wedding.

Plus, I didn't get into eleventh-grade autoshop - I had to take typing instead. Oh, to think how my life could have been different.

The guy is like David Arquette - he intentionally dresses like a complete idiot. Luckily, David can hang his hat on his acting skills.

Vincent "Greezy" Gallo, perchance?

OR a civil-war re-enacting freak from your work, whichever.

Heh. One of the guys in my gym is horrified at the fact that his baby's momma is losing the pregnancy weight faster than he is.

Hello! Magazine described it as a "cheerful tangerine shirt". I love Hello! magazine.

They will never let him back into Gross Pointe.
