Not contentious at all. We wouldn't make out, but we never argued, so I doubt we would start now. I think I will bag the card and suggest that we go out sometime.

eta cake is a very good idea. Thanks fringey.

BTW, fringy there was a mini-revolt when I suggested that we didn't need to do anything special about at birthday party other than get together. "No cake" was immediately discarded as the delusional ramblings of a deranged mind. I think that there may be an intervention at the party based entirely on the "no cake" suggestion alone.
You are reminding me of the "no cake" event that I think I should have recognized would inevitably lead to the end of a friendship. IT WAS MY FUCKING BIRTHDAY!

Ahem.

Sometimes the best thing a friend can do is to say "No- enough!"

It's like, if a friend's only child has died, you don't send a mother's day card. You have dinner with them or whatever to provide company in time of stress.

Possibly she could call his friends and make sure they take him out. Which I was going to say, but didn't.
Ah. Gotcha.

I am in semi-regular contact with one of my exes (with whom I lived in a state of sin for several years), and we get together from time to time, but it would never occur to me to send her a card commemorating any part of our relationship, nor have I ever received one from her.

I have a hard enough time remembering significant dates associated with my current relationship. Plus also the penalties for forgetting are considerably more severe.

He probably sucked a lot of dick, but his parents' connections got him his start, I'm sure.

I hate most of his movies, but he had the highest grossing comedy in the history of the world or some shit: Meet the Fockers (2004): Total US Gross: $279,167,575

That buys him like 10 more flops.

No.

If he's sad, do something else that would be nice (like buy him a video game he would enjoy or something) for him some other time. Don't connect anything to your marriage or your anniversary or you and him in any way. You want your marriage to be over. You don't want him thinking there are residual feelings that mean you are in any way open to the idea of the two of you getting back together. People seize onto these things, ignoring everything else to the contrary. Especially when they're all sad and shit.

Fascinating book. Who knew that Ben Stiller was a big enough prick to back out of hosting the second live show when they went back on the air after 9/11? Reese Witherspoon can do it, but you can't, Ben? Jerk.
Norm came back to host SNL the season after he was fired. In his opening monologue, he said he was fired because NBC didn't think he was funny. Then NBC asked him to host, which either meant he had gotten a lot funnier in just a few months, or "this show really blows." He then said that he didn't think he had gotten much funnier in a few months, so . . .

Sorry, but this is the official (ice cream) cake of the FB:

When I was in college, for someone's birthday, four of us went to Baskin Robbins and got an ice cream cake. We knew that it'd melt if we didn't eat it soon, because none of us had a freezer, so the four of us devoured the whole thing in the Baskin Robbins with the poor guy behind the counter staring on in disbelief. I don't think he'd ever witnessed a food orgy like that before. Four women simultaneously agreeing to blow any semblance of diet and gorging on ice cream cake is a scary thing to watch, apparently.

I've just broken a vow of silence. If you don't hear from me in a few days, assume that one of the other three took me out.
