I keep restarting until I am pretty sure I can block off an area big enough to build 15 or so cities on, and am not stuck on mostly desert or other crap-type land. If there's like one other civilization in my area, I kill them off early. Then I'm generally isolationist, except when I accidentally get pregnant and need someone to kick me in the abdomen repeatedly.

Okay, that was a little uncalled for. Spanky is a decent guy, notwithstanding his desire to hump Ayn Rand's corpse (she's dead, isn't she?). Vehement argument about politics does not need to slip to this level.

Sour Grapes on CAFTA?

You may call them soundbites but every sentence after the Tauscher comment is true. I attacked Tauscher because the DLC supports the deal. I actually know Tauscher personally and have met her staff. If I am going to trust someone it will be the DLC over Tauscher.
|
I agree with you on listening to the DLC. And I supported CAFTA and questioned Tauscher on this. Remember?
I'm just willing to listen to what she has to say and not to adopt your view that she is in the pocket of "unions and special interests." (I'm impressed that you managed to leave "trial lawyers" off the list.) I've repeatedly asked you to explain how such a union whore, as you seem to see her, could get any rating from the Cato Institute nearly as high as what you cited. If you back up everything you say, respond to that.
You back up your tautologies with sound bites. That's not reasoned argument; it is merely spouting absolutes.
Indeed, the very premise that this entire discussion started with -- thou shalt support Republicans if thou believest in the free markets -- is demonstrative of your absolutist views and your absolutist arguments, as is your view that all business lobbies are good, wonderful, pro-growth people. You ignore example after example that contradicts you. Fuck, your own favorite publication, the Economist, endorsed Kerry over Bush -- had they sold out to the socialists that week?
Quote:
And to say that the Republican party is caught up in a knee jerk tautology may have some validity but in my opinion the Dems are worse. The DLCs comments on CAFTA are proof. The fact that they have to tell their own people to get over their emotions and do what is right shows that. The Republicans may have hated Clinton but they gave him fast track authority and supported his free trade deals.
|
The fact that the DLC does this would seem to indicate that the Dems are not caught up in the unified, sound-bite based program that the Repubs are in. They can't even agree on a policy among themselves.

How is Civ vs. SimCity a "vehement argument about politics"? Is this some fancy code I'm whiffing on?
If you are going to use the "all natural" sticks up your ass, you should cover them with a couple condoms to avoid the splinters.

No, you are just a fucking moron. You moved past arguing on politics to a personal attack about something stupid.
I typed that slowly so hopefully you can follow it.

Now, take that kind of talk to the FB.
Or not, since I seem to be conducting lifestyle polls here and politician-height debates on the FB.
Carry on.

While I of course respect your psychic abilities, the "twat" was a typo for "twit" that I thought was funny and left there, and the "twit" was in reaction to yet another "I worked in Tokyo!!!!! and I spell like a Brit because I am sofistikated!!!!!" post, which didn't really relate to the post it was supposedly responding to.
It has become obvious (to me) that it's impossible (for me) to have a normal discussion with spankers about politics -- see my "I think he's doing a sociology experiment" post. He's stuck like a broken record on the RNC talking points.

We were talking about Civ. Why do you have to make it all about Spanky?
In ls, I used to leave my laptop at my carrel. During Thanksgiving break of first semester, I came in one morning and it was gone. Turns out a desperately lonely classmate with severe emotional problems had taken it home so he could load Civ I on my laptop. His idea was that he would install it on several of our computers and then we could all sit around and play Civ together. Although that never exactly happened, I credit him for my not making top 10% that semester.

Science Marches On
Anyone see the article today about White House official Phil Clooney (formerly of American Petroleum Institute) made "edits" to reports by gov't scientists on climate change?
Lovely. Just fucking lovely. Let the lobbyists and the political hacks tell the scientists what to say.

Now, I'm sure when they are at home, those Bush administration people are decent guys. Does using this kind of filthy language really advance the discussion any? I don't think so. Shame on you.

Fringey sees "twat" as a sign of endearment, or affection. It probably stems from dating death row guys.

We had homeless wandering through our school. How could you possibly trust to leave a computer? Where did you go? Why didn't you go home for thanksgiving.

ShapeShifter is really a decent guy, and doesn't deserve for you to cast these slurs on his family life. Vehement political argument . . . er, I mean, discussions of somewhat addictive computer games . . . do not need to slip to this level.
You needed ID to get into the libraries where I went both undergrad and LS. I'm so surprised Hah-vahd did not have a similar system. Of course, I think you went to school in the 60s, so maybe that's it -- more trusting back then.

My real school is Harvard, but my internet persona went to GW. There're homeless there.
Was your school associated with a prison, it sounds well-guarded?
