There's a somewhat well-known (in Yale circles) Yale couple from my era where the husband hyphenated his name. Even by Yale standards, that's pussy shit.
Whooo, google-related update. Apparently he's now taken his wife's name. Pussy shit^Pussy shit.

He changes his name for Rhee? I could see if it was something cool like Bloodyskulls or Thundercock, but Rhee?

Mrs. dL kept her last name for many reasons, not the least of which is the fact that she had stature within her profession with her maiden name. That said, another reason that we seriously discussed was that her name is significantly shorter and easier to pronounce than my IRL name, and is therefore the name of choice when making dinner/car service/etc. reservations.

My Tia Ana can drink everyone in the family under the table. She prefers Scotch, but she'll drink red wine if it's a Scotch inappropriate situation. She turns 90 in December, but don't tell anyone that I told you. She could easily pass for late 60s early 70s.

When you roll, is there a soundtrack accompaniment?

I take it you didn't vote for Antonio, then.

I love my mother's maiden name. It's much cooler than my last name or my SO's. If I could pick a last name for myself and my kid without causing confusion and perhaps offense, I would pick that one.
I just realized that as of right now, there is only one male child with my mother's maiden name in the extended family. I have a few male adult cousins on that side but I think only one of them -- father of the aforementioned family name carrier-onner - is not through procreating yet. The others have daughters.
And my brother is the last with my father's last name, and he doesn't have kids. My only male cousin with that last name has daughters.
Huh. That's actually kind of sad.

My gay brother is the last male to carry on the family name. My mom handed him an article from the New York Times a few years ago that was titled "So you're gay, so what? I still want grandchildren." You'd think that someone with a zoology degree would have a better grasp of basic mammalian reproductive biology.

That's why they did it, actually, and it turned out ok as their first kid is a son.

I guess so (that is what many of his friends called him). I have no idea what that link is - but it warms the cockles, I tell you, if this means my dear grandfather's name is making a comeback!
When considering names for our kids, I would go to those "names" sites and get ideas. I would look up Baldomero to see what it meant, how popular, etc. and even the Spanish-speaking sites didn't always have the name. My uncle said it's the Spanish form of Vladimir, but I have not found independent verification of that.
He (my uncle) is most likely full of shit.

Excellent. Let me know how that works out for you. I have had moderate success. I've even stopped signing my last name on almost everything other than checks. Not only is it a catchy one word name, but it saves time and effort in signing credit card receipts. Next I may follow Laverne and just cut it down to a single letter.

Man, your ideas just keep getting better and better (and you are annoyingly always at least one step ahead, darn you!). Do you think you'll go the route of adhering a large letter to all your garments and other fine washables?

I have a friend who married a guy whose last name was Smith. He felt somewhat unattached to his last name, as his father had long-ago murdered his mother.
They created a new last name. Actually, they took her last name and added a "Von" in front of it. Pretentious? Yes. But it cracks me up.
Then they had children.... two sons... named Grayson and Nolan.
I laughed again.
