Trolls are sub-human creatures who live under bridges and try to eat your goat.
Now, Spanky, do you really want to know the second part?

Because we are intellectually provocative, albeit from differing places on the political spectrum. Most of the posters here (i.e. rank n file liberals) are static in their thinking, i.e. deep inside the illogical non-sense box of modern day liberalism. Creative solutions (even the crazy blogospheric progressive stuff that Ty is spewing...spouting....whatever) scare them, so they call us trolls. I feel confident that I am in the right since I have been on the winning side 5 of the last 7 national elections. 7/7 if you count a vote for Perot as electing Clinton. The rest of the bunch here, short of you, Club, Bilmore, Sheik, Slave, Burger on a good day and me (and Plated's ghost), are still pining for Dukakis. Oh and except Ty-I think he's a green.

If the government is the only purchaser then they will start buying $5,000 wrenches and buy the health insurance plan from the company that donates the most to their campaign.

I trudged two foot high snow in the blustery winds of New Hampshire, sockless, in Bass weejuns, going door to door to GOTV for him...

I should have been more specific. Even with these private pools doing the bidding the government would still be covering the bill. So there would be no or little incentive to keep the costs down.
Maybe I have it figured wrong. Why do you think these private pools would care about the cost of the premiums?

We're both trying to find a way to use competition to keep prices down. You have in mind that most people will have their own insurance, and will either will make their own choices to drive prices down, or will select insurance providers that do so. I have in mind that people are going to be in something like an HMO, only with a government-required minimum standard of coverage, and that the competition among providers to get that business will keep prices down. I don't like your mechanism for some of the same reasons that led to wonk owing this ER doctor $5000. But that's off the cuff.
And theren't aren't many trolls hereabouts lately, but Hank et al. like to call people trolls. They think it's funny.
