No offense, but a running Guernica joke and posts that tend toward the surreal, though carrying some similarities, does not a Picasso make. To get there, you'll have to drink even more, and embace pacifism to a degree to which I think you'd be uncomfortable.

I wasn't puffing my talent. I was denigrating your opinions.

On your little white horse
You lie to your people,
and blame it on your war of course

"You call yourself a Christian,
I call you a hypocrite
You call yourself a patriot,
well I think you're full of shit

"Oh, sweet Neo Con,
What path have you led them on?
Oh, sweet Neo Con,
Is it time for the atom bomb?

"You parade around in costume,
Expecting to be believed
But as the body bags stack up,
We believe we've been deceived

"The horror you've unleased,
Will backfire with more grief
When will you ever learn,
Sweet Neo Con, as the world burns?

"Oh, sweet Neo Con,
What path have you led them on?
Oh, sweet Neo Con,
Is it time for the atom bomb?
Oh, sweet Neo Con,
What path have you led them on?
Oh, sweet Neo Con,
Is it time to drop the bomb?"
Generally the wisdom of a policy is inversely proportional to the amount of rock stars and movie stars that support it. The fact that Mick and Keith don't support the NeoCons is the strongest argument for the NeoCon's policies that I have heard yet.

Where do country music stars and NASCAR drivers fit in this analysis?

Actually, Keith doesn't care for the song...

You gotta love this stuff, though. I mean, really, from Sweet Neocon, thru fillibusters, thru Farenheit 9/11, thru MoveOn, thru Rovegate... The people who lost the lection have managed to neverthless thwart, insult, denigrate and rais suspicion about the current administration. In so doing, they've handcuffed Bush on a lot of his social agenda. So I guess it could be said that the Dems are alive and well... they're just using guerilla tactics. Bush has the broadest power of any president in recent history, and yet a pile of people are fucking up his agenda royally, dragging him in 1000 different directions. I love - I mean, I really savor - watching people throw molotov cocktails at this Presidency. Its heartening to see people can still make a mess of an organized party’s agenda. I think that’s the spirit of America - people keeping organized, virulent groups from taking over the Republic.

Of course, it helps when the party in charge takes up lost causes like SS reform and a "war" on an ideology.

New Orleans under water

In case some didn't notice, New Orleans is in a heap a' trouble. Levees thought to have survived the initial impact of Katrina have been breached, and martial law has been declared. No water, no power and no sewage control. Roads are impassible, and the SuperDome is surrounded by water. Somebody's going to have to figure out how to house 500,000 people for at least a month.

Football is a uniter, not a divider. You look like you were enjoying yourself at the World Cup in 1998. Or were you just happy we lost because Clinton was president?

Add sports stars and expand "rock stars" to include popular music stars generally, and I'll concur with the analysis. Movie & music people seem to me, however, to be the worst examples of know-nothing loudmouthedness. Sports stars, in fairness, tend to keep their mouths shut about stuff they know nothing about better than most other celebs.

BR(still of the opinion that Brad Pitt may be the smartest man in Hollywood since his "Who cares what I think about China and Tibet? I'm a grown man who puts on makeup" statement)C

Try more like 3-6. None of the repair/relief workers will be able to stay or base their work locally, either, which will slow things down, well, a lot. It will be like trying to rebuild & repair a mid-sized American city in, oh, Congo, where you've got no power and no passable roads.

It could be longer than that if the flooding/silting causes the Miss. to change course, as it is wont to do but for the levees. Preserving the navigability of the Mississippi will take precedence over fixing the city, not only because you can't really fix anything until that's squared away, but because of its significance to trade in about 2/3 of the country and its necessity for oil imports (& other imports, and exports).

I have money riding with the Mr. as to whether this will result in temporary oil price decreases in the rest of the world (because the US will be able to import less of it).

One of the levees has been breached, so the city is filling with floodwater.

One guy jumped off of one of the balconies at the Superdome.

A lot of the Louisiana National Guard is in Iraq.

Wetlands protection has been rolled back considerably in the last five years in the area, though I can't imagine how anyone was stupid enough to do that after Tropical Storm Allison here in 2001.

Speaking of worthwhile charities at this time in light of Hurricane Katrina, here's one that helps some of our friends that generally end up at the back of the line: www.noahswish.org

How does the support of Dennis Miller and Mel Gibson for Neo-con policies play out?

Shit. I return to the board from a hiatus, only to be reminded of the Golden Rule.

Funny -- I remember it as Bilmore being happy that 2000 American soldiers were dead.

After all, if you support the war, that means you must be happy that American soldiers are dead. Right?
