It's seen as an admission of lack of the intellectual strength to post in your own voice. None of the present day posters would ever admit to socking, and other than the lowest of the low they would not sock.

I would make reservations sooner rather than later. I have a feeling all long-term residency hotels even vaguely within travelling distance of NO are going to fill up pretty fast.

That said, my parents lived in a Residence Inn for 4 months after a housefire. They came through relatively unscathed, though my mother was trying to have dinner parties back in the house before the electricity was back on.
