BTW, for all the people saying how wonderful the wildcard is, because it's created excitement in the last week, are they forgetting that if we had the old divisional lineup, right now the Red Sox, Yankees, and Indians would all be fighting for the division title, while the White Sox would have the Angels nipping at their heals?
If this is a pun, I don't get it. 'Splain.

It is here that "sultana" usually means a Turkish light-colored rasin. In Britain, sultana commonly just means a rasin of any color.

Then again, in Britain I noticed they also refer to South Asian people as "black," so perhaps they just aren't as concerned as we are about distinguishing gradations of skin color generally.

Just a contact high

1. I'm too old to be out seeing bands 'til 1:00 on Sundays.

2. Tipping your bartender is, of course, to be encouraged. But it can have unintended results. Like ordering a vodka soda as a slow-down move, but ending up with a tall glass of Ketel One on ice.

3. Destroyer would be a good band, but I can't deal with the singer's voice full-time. He's fine on an occasional New Pornographers vocal, but when it's just him...

4. The New Pornographers are a very deserving unofficial band of the Fashion Board. Very fun show. Maybe I'll transfer my school boy crush from Georgia girl to Neko Case.

Damn.

Any old rasins
Are UK Sultanas,
Though they mark plantains
as distinct from bananas.

Overall, the British,
whether dark or light,
Only seem to distinguish
If it's not lily white.

That assumes there's an opportunity cost to their time. There's not. Unlike you with billable hours, they can't go out and play some more hoops and be paid $105k/game to do it. They're not being paid by the hour to play Playstation and roll in their Escalades either.
Well, Jermaine gives x hours to practice and y hours to doing mandated events and w hours community service/charity and then plays 100 games a year. For that he gets his 10-13 million.

Outside of that time he has free time, maybe he reads, maybe he plays with his kids maybe he plays Nintendo, but whatever he does, I'm sure the time is valuable to him. He doesn't need more money- and he probably wishes he had more free time.

The real value is what would I have to pay to get him to come to my event and talk. I'm sure taking 60 hours of his free time away would cost me quite a bit.

Random Peeve of the Day

Stonyfield Farm Organic Low Fat Yogurt comes in Vanilla, a normal flavor, and Banilla, a disgusting banana-vanilla concoction. The package is almost exactly the same, except for the B, and the fact that the accent color on the Vanilla packaging is a creamy pale yellow, while the accent color on the Banilla packaging is a creamy mid-tone yellow. These items invariable are stocked immediately next to one another on the refrigerator shelf in the store.

That's just wrong. They should really put a monkey on the package or something.

The weather gods hate me

They send me fleeing from my city with 2.5 million other people on Thursday night, they fail to deliver a single drop of rain to Austin on Saturday and instead kick in this amazing gust that launches every particle of dust in Zilker Park airborne and into my and balt's lungs, they raise the temperatures in Zilker Park on Sunday to a fucking 104 degrees in late September (accompanied a milder continuance of the dust storm), and then they continue to fuck with the temperatures by making it 98 degrees in Houston today, tomorrow, all the way to the end of the week, when it's supposed to finally get nice.

Warning to the citizens of Chicago, I'm headed in your direction.

I can't believe it

I can't believe no one is discussing the Kucher/Moore nuptials!
Is she/he/both of them nuts? Married? Why? Why? Why?

And who dresses her?

Exactly. The sad thing is that he's probably a better actor than her, which is like saying that NFH is a better poster than sunnybunny.
