I just hope that somehow medical records are involved in whatever trial I end up in.

My sister used "I don't think I could ever send anyone to jail" once pretty effectively.
I forgot why you're trying to get out of it, but am I the only one who isn't bothered by jury duty?

The Frequently Asked Questions section of the Harris County District Clerk's Office does not answer the important "what do I do if I lost the form summoning me to jury duty" question.

ETA: never mind, I figured it out. I've actually managed to move out of state every time anyone's ever tried to summon me, so all of my courtroom experience is limited to the other side of the bar.

Fingercuffs? By that time, I'm usually calling her a whore. But in a complimentary way.

Victoria's Secret is selling 3 packs of shelf bra tanks online that are very good. I just got the white, red and brown pack and I may have to go ahead and order a white, red and black pack as well. Only downside - if you haven't bought anything from them in the last decade, this will put you back on their list for a free catalogue everyday.

I would love to get on one- a short one, not some OJ thing. But I will never be allowed on one, unless I first get into the box after challenges are done.

Does it have an answer to "What do I do if the post office lost/never deliverd the form noticing me of my summons to jury duty" question?

[*]I had lunch with a guy who, when he found out I'm a lawyer, started asking me about how to get out of some sort of boating citation (something involving failure to have an observer while a kid was on a jet ski type thing in another state). His big issue was that it's a Class C Misdemeanor and he doesn't want that "on his record." The fine is $150. I ducked and hemmed and hawed and said I wasn't really a criminal defense attorney licensed in Arizona, but maybe he should call the court and/or DA and see what they ahve to say. He wanted to know if he should request a jury trial. Does anyone actually care about Class C Misdemeanors? This guy is a physician, and I'm pretty sure that neither hospitals nor medical boards care. [/list=1]

1. The most effective thing I ever saw: A potential juror on an assault case, who looked like a really good, even-handed, fair person, pipes up after voir dire is almost done and says "I just want to say.... if I saw the defendant walking towards me, I'd be really scared."

It had the advantage of sounding really, really honest and truthful.

2. He should find out if state law allows him to have the conviction expunged. Some states (maybe most or all, I don't know) provide for this -- if you have a misdemeanor and are sentenced only to probation, once you complete it you have a statutory right to get the conviction expunged. Which means it's gone, like it never happened, and you never have to answer a question with "yes, I was convicted of a crime" unless the question is phrased very specifically to include expunged convictions.*

*no one should rely on this, it's not legal advice, and my criminal defense background is way old so ymmv. Etc. and so forth.

I think my regular active Texas dues are less than that. If I didn't like California so much and if reciprocity existed at any level, I'd seriously consider letting it lapse.
Virginia - $150 to start for inactive, plus tack on the $25 late charge every year because I never get the fee in on time (I think that they lie about sending me a statement ever before it is past due, but it is possible that I just ignore things coming to me from Virginia - I throw away their bar magazine every month without even checking article titles or the Who Has Moved Where section).
Texas - I thought $175? I'm not inactive there, but I do get out of Occupation Tax (and apparently CLE) now that I'm not practicing there.
California - Paid by the firm! Suckers!

Actually we are equally annoyed by them because they clog up our tiny apartment mailbox and neither of us is inspired to check the mail more often than once a week or so. I guess if we were wealthy enough to afford a house in the suburbs and a dog and 2.5 kids, they might be a nice diversion for him.

I always check these in the Bar and the Alumni mags just to keep up on any moves that I may have made but am not acutely aware of.

If I weren't doing bootcamp in the mornings and if ACL wasn't next Friday, I wouldn't have a problem with it. It's not my work schedule that is inconvenienced, but my personal schedule. I'd actually like to serve on a jury at some point, but just not next week. Unfortunately, when I rescheduled back in March (travel conflict) I didn't really know that I would end up with a weird schedule in September.
