You are not honestly saying this, are you? This is a matter of record (searchable, no less!!) -- do you really want to stick with this statment?

Race decal, apparently. It had rained a bit during the race.

Why are you breaking my chops? no, seriously I thought we were friends? I wouldn't do this to you.

I meant that the designers they talk about are much more chi chi than I talk about.

Zola Budd? Zola Budd grew up on the veldt.

Ain't no veldt in Bloomfield Hills.

But anyway, in case it isn't clear, the confusion seems to lie in the fact that you say you are working 7 days a week for the rest of the year, in large part "for the children," yet it is also apparently for high-end accoutrements. There is nothing inherently wrong about appreciating quality. There is, however, something unappealing about substituting the latest, most expensive trendy buy for an understanding either of true quality or of whether it is appropriate to slave away as you choose to do in order to afford such trendy things. And the thing is, if you keep your mental orientation toward all those things really best afforded by my Junior League buddies with a nanny for each kid slumming it in a 2500 SF'er a bit too far East while the 7-floor brownstone on 78th between Madison and Park is gutted, then you will never, ever be able to have a realistic grip on what is a good idea or not for you. And having this or that flashy or even just fancy-but-known-only-to-you (and your imaginary friends) thing doesn't actually make you any better or worse than the other soccer mom in the three-year-old Orvis to your quilted Burberry. My point is, yes, you deserve to look nice and feel nice, but it's the blindness of "if it's more expensive, then it must be better" that is juvenile and social-climbing of the worst sort.
Are you and fugee having this conversation with ppnyc as a subtle attempt to show her how annoying she is when she assumes she knows all about other people's lives and gets all judgmental and consescending on their ass? Because I'm not sure she'll see the parallel and I'm not sure why you guys think you need to comment on her money management, about which you know absolutely zip.

What do you know about her finances? So she posts about annoying name brand stuff. I wouldn't have assumed that she is working "7 days per week until year end" because she wants the bonus cash, but maybe it is the 9 years I've spent doing transactional stuff and I get that we lack the flexibility to decrease our schedules when work gets really busy, typically at the end of the year. But in any event, why is it your business? You guys are really trying to "help" her with some problem you've convinced yourselves she has or are you just trying to sound superior about your own spending patterns?

I hate judgmental assumptions about people's lives and preaching condescension, whatever the source.

But if it is all meant to show her how annoying her assumptions about bnb have been, good show.

On a related note, I qualified for Boston (barely) yesterday. Since Chicago is such a late race, I'm in for 2007 or 2008. Penske probably won't want to wait until 2008, though, since I think that's the year he turns 50. Of course, he has to qualify first.
Does Boston have a "Clydesdale division" qualifying time?

In my world of tech companies, the people with fuck you money dress the part. So you can't tell them apart from the janitorial staff, but you can tell them apart from the numerous pressed-khaki schmos who serve them (myself included).

And if I had fuck you money, damned right all I'd care about in dress was being comfortable.

but to be fair, most of us are depenant on your money, so we're not really in a position to criticize you.

You wouldn't do what to me? Call me on outrageous statements that are plainly false?

I'm not sure what you mean by "friends" as we've never met in person, and I have been civil to you (as I am to everyone - mostly), but how much of "friends" can we be? If you say something that I find to be ridiculous, I will say so.

People use financial discipline or being "frugal" as a way to try to appear morally superior, more disciplined than others.

I will never live it down that I chose to cast assumptions or aspersions on poster's lives here--but on the other hand, it has them gunning for me big time and I'm a little confused why. If I am so obnoxious "hare brained" and dumb and vapid, why care what I do?
