But if I were working on him I would say: I'm not an alcoholic, so I don't know, but I would imagine for alcoholics it's not "about the buzz." Your body becomes dependent on alcohol independent of the buzz. And an alcoholic's body needs what an alcoholic's body needs.
I might also say that there are levels of alcoholism. There is lying in the street, thrown my life away and there is need a drink in the morning to get through the day and there is really love alcohol and the buzz and drink way too often. I'm sure there are others, but just because you don't need a drink in the morning doesn't mean you are not an alcoholic.

No way. I saw a cat give birth once. It was horrifying.

Dumbass fuckhead, I was requesting that TM work on you, not that you work on anything. How old is the kid? Because you are kind of reverting back to the jackassholosity you wallowed in prior to getting engaged to your now-wife. Is she distracted by the baby, and you aren't getting enough attention at home? Keeeee-rist.

placenta?
I'm afraid I'm sliding into middle age in a bad way. Between commuting, family and working a million hours I don't have a ton of time to work out, I'm trying to maintain. Eating well is a real struggle, I see people on my train, in their 50s still slogging looking very grey, tired, out of shape and worn out. They are what I will become. Should I bother to fight it?

I think your child would be infinitely less interesting in adulthood if he were raised by a boarding school instead of you.

You have exactly the same amount of time as anyone else. Just determine where your priorities lie and there is your answer. I work out for probably at least two hours per day. I enjoy it. I have prioritized it over other activities.
I would go insane if I felt out of shape or unattractive. Everyone has a different comfort level. I would be a horrible mother and wife* if I felt out of shape or unattractive so I would prioritize my own fitness. But not everyone does or would.
*I am neither a mother nor a wife, but I know plenty of mothers and wives who hold down stressful jobs and are in fantastic shape. They somehow make it work. They have prioritized their own fitness.

That is a pretty sane answer. In the middle of August, I will start to do that. Maybe get up early to go to the high school track.
I feel better when I run.

This medium is so fucking limited. I understood that. You're not understanding my point. Reread.
You do realize 80% of the "conversations" taking place here are really disconnects, where people think they're talking about the same thing and aren't. It's the people who are sure they know what someone's saying who are most often the punchline.
How am I reverting to jackassness? I was unclear before I got hitched and always read everything sideways.

Really?!?
The percentage of teenaged girls that I find annoying apporaches 100%, and with the boys, it's about 50% -- sullen teenagers are really tiresome. However, all the really nice, polite teenagers I know happen to be boys.
Then again, I don't think I'll find my own teenagers (when they are teenagers) annoying, but if they are the annoying, sullen "too cool for everyone" types, I live in the prep school capital of the world, and off they go. But I really don't think I could stand to send them away to boarding school. If I do, it will be to a boarding school within 10 miles of my house.

"Interesting" is a kind description for "disaster." I'm hoping he's terribly rebellious toward me, which will give him a fighting chance in life.

I went to a school about 26 miles from your house (or, at least, from your local diner, not knowing where your house is) - and about the same distance from my own. 10 miles may be too close, for all concerned.

I went to boarding school. It messes you up. On the one hand, I might have been messed up anyway, and it was a single-sex boarding school so that might have been what messed me up, but I did not like it so much. If you have a rebellious streak, boarding school is like heaven for letting that streak bloom and grow and get you into all kinds of shit.
