Are Massachusetts' kids that sheltered?
This is probably a politics question, but I think it's more interesting as a poll sort of jumping off point.
Mitt Romney is going after Barak Obama for suggesting that
Quote:
he considers sex education for kindergartners appropriate if it is tailored to their age level. He has said that if a kindergartner asks a question such as where babies come from, they should be told accurate information. Obama also said warning young people about inappropriate touching is an example of the type of sex education he supports, adding that he was criticized for his position on sex education during his 2004 U.S. Senate campaign as well.
|
I think I found out about the whole penis+vagina=baby thing when I was in first or second grade. I learned from my best friend, who got her intel from her older brother. I dutifully passed on all that I knew to my fascinated younger siblings, using barbie dolls for demonstration.
My parents found out about our new favorite subject and corrected us on some of the mechanics, but more or less I, my best friend, and her brother had it right.
The Barbies didn't. Though they did have a lot of sex from that point forward using their less than adequate equipment.
I don't think it was too soon, or that I developed an unnaturally early interest in sex, or that I was too stupid to realize that there was a remarkable correlation between my mom's sudden lack of a belly and (yet another) sibling.
Are Republican children that stupid? Sorry, sorry, couldn't help it....what I meant to ask is when did ya'll learn about sex?

I think I was 8 or 9 and I heard about things from friends. I knew about kissing way before that, but I don't think I ever asked the "where do babies come from" question (no younger siblings). I do remember being with a group of friends when I was 10 or 11 and finding a (used) condom in the school parking lot. There were varying degrees of knowledge about what that was. Who leaves a used condom in an elementary school parking lot, anyway?

This past weekend was the second, First Annual Charles River Swim. (Last years event was cancelled due to a blue green algae outbreak.)
Thanks to the MIT nuclear reactor outflow, the water was nice and warm.
If I get myself in shape for a 1 mile open water swim, I'd consider doing it next year.

My long term short term fitness goal is to swim Alcatraz next summer.

Sex - 4th grade, from a friend who was the youngest of 9. She even had the low down on gay sex. I knew about penises much earlier. Later that year we had Health Class with Mrs. Bardes who went into great detail about puberty, but not the mechanics of sex.
My repressed, Catholic parents did a good job of sheltering their oldest child. Of course, I did just as good a job of sharing the information with my younger sister.

The Brazenette (age 4) knows she came out of my belly. She has yet to ask how she got in there. Just last week, she asked me if it hurt when she came out, looked at me askance when I told her it didn't (it was a c-section, so it really didn't hurt), and then told me she thought it would hurt when she had babies, so she only wants to have 18.
..... (extra ellipsises for fringey)

My bike was also my worst of the three, though I was surprised at how much my run suffered for having finished two other sports ahead of time.
Still, nearly the top quarter on your first half-iron triathlon is pretty unbelievable sounding to someone who finished in the second half (though not the last quarter) of her first sprint distance tri.
Are you planning on doing any others?
|
I am going to get some experience on the bike and then do a few Olympic distance races.
Do we know what causes those cramps? They fucking suck.

I probably eat 5-8 bananas a week! Do I need to eat more?
