I am already burned out on bridge collapse coverage. I honestly cannot believe how a huge fucking section of a major fucking highway in the downtown of a not-so-big fucking city just falls into the motherfucking Mississippi River during rush hour.
In all fairness, it would have been even stranger for it to have fallen into another river at that time.

Actually, that sounds conflicted.

Or if an amorphous spirit had predicted it like that movie with Richard Gere where he saves the female sheriff's life in the bridge collapse at the end.

You're sweet. Get signed to a label, release an album, PM me the cover art, and we'll talk.

My apartment gets a 94 out of 100. Maybe that's why I walk in LA.
My place gets a 17. But it assumes we walk along the roads, when a cut through a nice wooded trail cuts many of our walks substantially. So we really should have something up in the 20s or 30s. It also assumes that we would walk a mile to the nearest park when our house sits next to a well-maintained 10 or 20 acre "forest" that has a small pond and play area. It's got a very urban definition of life.

On the other hand, it gives a neighboring house as selling "discounted meds" -- I think I just learned something important.

Damn that Ralph's for closing! Damn them!!!!!
Apparently I am walking distance to FIVE Starbucks -- and I don't even live in the city! I think that fact should lower my score but an 85 for the suburbs isn't too bad.

Sade, Love Deluxe, is a solid A.

Roxy Music, Country Life, was included, I assume as a nostalgia pick. I would hate to run one of those CSI lights over Atticus' old album cover. Anyhoo, I am sure there is plenty of A and B potential with both of them, but only for the tranny fetishist.

I heard, but have not read, of people in cars falling down into the river then swimming to safety. Have you seen that confirmed?

After 9/11 some people here were talking about our connections to Canada and how they would make good targets. there is a tunnel under the Detroit river and a bridge over it. One guy said he'll start taking the bridge because if you're in the tunnel and a bomb goes off, you have no way out, you'll drown for sure. He felt he had a chance on the bridge because he'd hit the water but have a chance to swim away. I figured if your car fell that far and hit water the impact would knock you out and maybe kill you, so I didn't agree with him.

did people really swim out of cars that fell into the river?

Atticus was probably 2 when Country life came out so nostalgia is probably a poorly choosen word. It is a great album though, the best Roxy album, Prarie Rose may be Roxy's single best song. but the #1 vote that it gets is "Album that People think you only own for the cover art, but that has music you really like."

FWIW, I have heard that if your car is going into the water, you want to roll your windows down (counter-intuitively), since otherwise it gets very hard to open the doors.

If anyone knows this to be wrong, or has other practical advice for such circumstances, please let me know, since in the middle of nights like last night I like to lay awake in bed and picture how I'd get children in carseats out of vehicles that have plunged into a major river.

Ever since the I-95 collapse in Cos Cob, CT (yes, I am old), I always open a window or my sun roof when crossing a bridge. I hate driving over bridge suring traffic. It's a bit disconcerting being on the TZee, GWB, or Tobin while it is bouncing up and down.

Yeah, they did. It is unclear to me the situation their cars were in when they did so. For example, some cars were just thrown into the water. Some appeared to be resting on pieces of bridge that were partially submerged. Some were half in, half out. But I saw at least one interview with a woman who swam to shore. To answer Ty's question, I know there are instructional web sites about how to get out of a car if you go under. This is necessary information around here because so many people drive out onto lakes in the winter time.
