not to steal NFH's schtick but

from PEoplenews Elusive beast 'alive and well'

It's round 349 of the Bennifer wedding media circus and Ben Affleck has waded in, all guns blazing, to insist nuptials with J.Lo are still on. Following weeks of speculation, the shampoo-loving actor has maintained he and Jen are still together and they will get married. He also quashed rumours that their recent visit to a courthouse was for purposes more sinister than obtaining a gun licence. 'When we get married we're not gonna do it in a courthouse,' he ranted, adding the following gem: 'We've both been working so hard. We just want to get some peace and quiet. We're just hanging out, doing our thing like we've been doing for a long time now.' Laid-back Ben seems conveniently to have forgotten the couple's initial wedding tack, ditching peace and quiet in favour of fuelling publicity for current flick Gigli, which nothing on earth - least of all a high-profile wedding - could save.

'Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston don't get hounded like this,' Affleck griped. No Ben, they don't, but then neither court publicity so assiduously. Brad once famously stated that couples who star together on the big screen are asking for trouble. The only time they've worked together was when Brad guested on Friends in what was a very tongue-in-cheek performance. Ben and Jen will almost certainly be taking this advice, albeit against their will, for given the slating Gigli received at the hands of fans and critics alike it is unlikely that too many scripts are clogging up the Bennifer mail box. Good thing too.

Is 'shampoo-loving' a snide insult now?

Guys, it's actually a point in your favor when you're not unwashed skanks.

It's a reference to the lucrative Europe-only deal he signed to advertise L'Oreal shampoo and men's cosmetics.

Seems the "men's cosmetics" would make for better fodder than shampoo. What are men's cosmetics? Do men wear lipstick in europe?

Heh. Which one got the gun license? The other one better invest in some bulletproof clothing in case yet another delay of the wedding finally leads to violence.

For the record, I don't hate you.

I just think the whole "You're on my ignore list" and fighting flame wars with ghosts thing is tired and gets in the way of your otherwise often witty (and pithy) posts... Sometimes less is more, that's all.

You have as much chance as anybody at winning, as far as I'm concerned. Maybe a little more based on your body of work.

I vote for "smoking is cool." We all know that, no matter how the current health-pundits attempt to brain wash us via badly-conceived media blitz, smoking is cool. Unhealthy, unclean, but undeniably cool. Gay people are, by general acknowledgement, cooler than straight people. The correlation is obvious, if not the cause/effect relationship.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lies, damn lies and whatever link you just posted. First, go ask any head coach in the league or better yet, anyone who knows anything about football who they would rather have, McNabb or Johnson and you'll probably eat that link without hotsauce. Put Keyshawn on the Eagles and watch McNabb's numbers soar.

And I can't believe you took this guy seriously after he said, "But McNabb has also been sacked more frequently than Johnson—more than once, on average, per game, which negates much of the rushing advantage." Excuse me? A sack counts for negative rushing yards. Therefore, this tremendous negative is incorporated into his rushing stats. Besides, I would argue that a high number of sacks is usually the fault of the offensive line and most likely the receivers who might not be capable of getting open. Either way, the comment is stupid.

Then he follows up with this: "So far, no black quarterback has been able to dominate a league in which the majority of the players are black. To pretend that many of us didn't want McNabb to be the best quarterback in the NFL because he's black is absurd."

This is fucking comical. I'm black and I don't give a shit if McNabb is considered the best quarterback in the league. Where does he get this crap? I want to see Vick dominate the league because he's exciting. He's like the next version of McNabb. And I like him because he's exciting not black.

Finally, the guy is an Eagles fan which puts him, at best, in the irrational camp. Try these quotes on for size from people who actually know what the fuck they're talking about :

'Dallas Cowboys coach Bill Parcells said Limbaugh's opinion doesn't "represent how the majority -- the high majority" of people involved in the game for a long time think. "I know it doesn't represent anything near what I think," he said.'

and

'Washington Redskins coach Steve Spurrier was far from agreeing with the overrated part of Limbaugh's opinion. "They didn't give him all that money because he's an average quarterback," Spurrier said. "He's one of the best in the league."'

I can smell you're comeback already: "Well, these two coaches must be cowed by the media." Right.

You know, if all it took was pure stats to be one of the best, you would be screaming that we should have traded Jeter and signed Rodriguez or Garciaparra already. McNabb is an elite quarterback. You know it. I know it. The media know it. Limbaugh knows it. You're just throwing a fit because someone got in trouble for saying something about race and you're all upset over the PCing of the world.

And of course you're not the only one saying it. That's to be fully expected. But surely that doesn't mean you're right. If Andy Reid was black and Donovan McNabb was white, best believe Limbaugh would be spouting the same crap about Reid not winning the big game, being overrated, not belonging in the head coach fraternity because he was a black hire, etc. And you'd be citing articles backing him up. But I don't see anyone saying, "Reid doesn't use McNabb correctly. It's time for him to step down in favor of a black head coach who understands how to use an athletic quarterback and with whom he would have a better rapport." But this isn't the year 3003, so I guess I'll wait for that.

That argument is just plain dumb. You can't equate longevity with greatness. Your analogy doesn't apply.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You sound like a jackass because requiring teams to interview black coaches has nothing to do with the media's perception when it comes to McNabb. You see race, so automatically you bring it up. Next you'll say, that it's the same problem because the NFL is trying to appease the press and the Jesse Jacksons of the world by (1) pushing black coaches on owners and (2) pushing black quarterbacks on fans. But as far as I can see, the owners are still free to hire whoever they want (and they do) and the NFL and the media spend more time pushing Joey Harrington (the virtuoso, clean-cut, all-American white boy next door) down my throat than most other quarterbacks (Vick excluded).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So you get familiar with the motions. So you expose yourself to intelligent black coaches who answer your questions better than the guy you've already set your mind on. So you can see what kind of run defense he's planning on instituting so you can say to yourself, "That would work, how come no one else thought of that?" So the next time you're looking for someone your mind will be a little more open. It's not all a media-PC-fix on the NFL's part. I actually think it's a good idea.

So, I'm talking to someone who is 24 today. She was telling me how some dork said, "Word on the street is..." before giving her the latest gossip. And I said, "Yeah, if you don't say it in a I'm not taking myself seriously way, you just sound like Huggy Bear."

She says...

"Is he a Care Bear?"

Damn.
