Bullshit. Sox fans could fall back on "at least we beat the yankees" but losing to the cubs would certainly matter, if only because we at least can point to them as a team with even greater futility.

While this may not be the most representative cross section of Boston fans, I asked three different friends who are Boston fans what they'd rather have happen, (i) Sox beat Yankees for Pennant or (ii) Sox don't face Yanks and win Series. All of them thought I was joking. They hate the Yankees and beating them would put their souls at rest.
Besides, all Bosox fans, deep down want to suffer. If they lose to the Cubs, they would be the most suffering bunch of fans in the world. They beat the Yankees, but are still cursed. Therefore, they win.

Nah, it'd attract too much attention and the PETA red paint wouldn't come out. Better to stuff it and use it for an end table.
I'm kidding about myself but I bet S&R would have it stuffed and put in their house or their theater. I did some deals with a Skadden partner (you lurking Skaddenites in the NYC office know who I mean) whose office is like a freaking taxidermy exhibit. The skin of one lion he shot is on his conference table, another lion is stuffed and standing in a case, and he has a leopard lounging on the wall on a branch. Not to mention at least a dozen heads and skulls on the walls.
I suggested that perhaps his next safari should be of the photo variety so there would be animals left when I finally get to Africa.

Screw the A's. I'm looking for some history here...
Oct. 5 — There are only two possible explanation for what’s happening to the Oakland A’s. Either God has finally found a team he hates more than the Boston Red Sox, or the A’s are the biggest bunch of choking dogs in the history of this or any other game.
EITHER WAY, AFTER blowing a second straight game to the Red Sox Sunday, Oakland has a chance Monday night to run its record for failing to win the one game that counts to nine straight. Eight times straight now, the A’s had a chance to close out a series with one more win. Eight times straight, they’ve lost.
And if they lose to Boston, it will be the second time in three years they would have lost a five-game division series after being up 2-0.
Barry Zito on 3 days rest? Hmm.

Red Sox fans actually sound like they have more in common with White Sox fans, long-suffering AND surly. Cub fans, unfortunately for their true fans, are more and more getting a drunken frat boy image from the hooligans in the Wrigley bleachers.
If you're talking a drunken brawl, my money's on the Red Sox fans over the Cubs fans, though some of the beefier South Side White Sox fans could give the Red Sox fans a run for their money...

I have to agree with Thrasher and go with the Braves for the choking dogs title. 12 straight division titles and only one ring.

One of the strangest "deal trophies" I've seen was at the office of a little venture fund that worked in the Explorer's Club in NYC. The guy had this thing about six feet tall, round and kind of fat, gray and a little kind of scaley-feeling sitting very prominently at his door. Stuffed whale penis.

Truth. Cf. today's Boston board for discussion of anticipated choke.

I agree that David Ortiz ended the series last night. Pedro ain't giving up squat.
Should be a classic in the next round.

A little ketchup from the last thread.
You met your wife-to-be on the set of "Greed?" Are you Boxter Boy (you know who) or his friend?

Nice thing that you pick to agree with me on. Did I mention that I am a fan of the Buffalo Bills too?
I have sent a request to the Braves that for the sake of their fans they start lurking in the fucking cellar for a few years (before the playoffs, that is, not just something special for the post-season) so that maybe some people will start to pity us like they do fans of other losers.
Hockey starts in two days. Of course, I love the Thrashers whose star player decided to get reckless and nearly cripple himself and kill his teammate in the weeks leading up to the start of what was supposed to be our Cinderella season.
Everyone is warned -- piss me off and I will start liking your favorite team and oh boy then you can just watch that team jump into the shitcan.

I also agree that Dan Snyder will be missed. He played for the Chicago Wolves of the IHL for a while.
As for the whole jumping in the shitcan thing, my favorite team is the Cubs (not really). Can you start rooting for them?
(FWIW, I think Atlanta fans should blame EA Sports. They have a cover jinx of their own going, with Michael Vick on the cover of Madden 2004 and Heatley on the cover of NHL 2004.)

I have cursed the Cubs and their wretched fans. My plan is for them to play the BoSox and not only have the Cubs lose but their nasty-ass fans get pummeled by some good ole Bawwwstin Brawlers. Sometimes I miss the northeast and the colorful personalities.
And then I see people in shorts in October (and not crazy people who wear shorts in 10below weather at a football game in Jersey -- with no shirt) and I am okay again.

I love fall
And I think I have discovered a love for shoes.
I went out this weekend and bought 3 pairs of shoes including my first pair of leather boots of any length.
I lay the blame for this and the fact that I can no longer wear cheap shoes on BRC. I even looked at some cheap shoes. And I thought, ugh, I don't think so.
