Nationally Ted is #3; John Wayne Gacy is #2; and the GRK is #1. Not that I'm keeping score.

Greedy IP has a long thread speculating that the Jones Day merger might be back on. In 2001 or '02 merger talks went as far as a vote at P&E that failed.

Willkie Farr and Gallagher
The following is from the Willkie website:
Quote:
Dear All,
A terrible tragedy has befallen our Firm. As some of you may already have heard, early this morning, there was a fire at a hotel in Charlottesville, Virginia where nine of our people were staying while on a recruiting trip to the University of Virginia Law School. Tragically, Billie Kelly and Trish Langlade passed away. Margaret Mansouri is in the University Hospital and, as of now, we are told she is in stable condition. The other attorneys there, Jordan Alpert, Michelle Clark, Roz Fahey, Bill Grant, Dave Karp and Steve Seidman, apparently are fine.
It is impossible to adequately convey the depth of our sadness over these events, which took the lives of two of the most beloved members of the Willkie family. We are making arrangements for professional counseling assistance and will provide that information as soon as it is available.
We will all try to deal with this tragedy together.
|
All of us at Lawtalkers would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased and to wish a quick recovery to those injured.

Where Are They Now? Dept.
Adrian Cronauer, played by Robin Williams in Good Morning, Vietnam, was sworn into the Supreme Court bar recently.

We'll keep Robin Williams, and you can have Cronauer.

With all of the significant cases in which the Supreme Court could have granted certiorari, can someone explain why they picked this one? Oy.

from the article

Favish has been at it for years now, and if you really want to make him happy, you can check out his Web site for all the details on the alleged cover-up or his brief in the Supreme Court. His case began in 1997 when he filed his first request under the Freedom of Information Act for 150 photos of the Foster death scene and autopsy, hoping to prove Foster had been executed. The Office of the Independent Counsel refused, citing an exemption in FOIA for documents that need not be disclosed if they "could reasonably be expected to constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy.

The most interesting theory that I've heard so far - which is nothing more than a theory, it can't be proved - is that he was warned ahead of time by the Saudis. Now, who knows what the real situation is?

You're more likely to avoid carpal tunnel if you just make that your auto-sig.

Lawyer who backdated suit to report to prison
A McAllen [Texas] lawyer will report to a federal prison Dec. 29 to begin serving a 33-month sentence for backdating a lawsuit to beat a statute of limitations.
W. Lassiter Holmes III, 40, was found guilty of conspiracy and mail fraud in January and sentenced last week.
Holmes and Pauline Gonzalez, then Hidalgo County district clerk, were charged in July 2002 with conspiring to backdate a medical malpractice lawsuit.
Holmes drafted the suit in May 1999 and gave it to Gonzalez in an envelope bearing a 1996 postal cancellation stamp. Gonzalez allegedly used her official stamp to backdate the suit with a 1996 date. Her case is pending because of ill health.

Our newest Admin
I'd like to announce that we have decided to add a new Administrator to the board. Replaced Texan, who already was a Super Moderator (just one step below an Admin) has agreed to step into the role of Administrator. We needed a bit more assistance in helping people with problems they encounter and also in technological aspects of the board. With her prior experience with chat boards, RT brings a lot of knowledge that will be very helpful.
Thank you RT and good luck.
