O, woe to ye of little faith! Word on the street is that this HD DirecTivo, announced at the January 2003 CES show, will go on sale in 1Q 2004 (probably March or April, based on past patterns) at a street price between $700 and $800 --- substantially less than many, including me, had feared.

I'm not quite clear in my own mind whether it can record HD broadcasts from local network affiliates. I suspect not, at least until DTV finds the bandwidth to push those signals down from the satellite. If it could encode from OTA broadcasts, it would probably be a lot more expensive because of the hardware involved.

I think Shannon Elizabeth is objectively hotter. But Phoebe Cates' body back then was so far above every other woman's (surgery just had not evolved to the levels we currently enjoy) that she gets the nod. Perfection.
