 | The Coltrane friends were recently discussing the amount of drinking and driving we had done in HS. Ridiculous. We should be dead. Did this happen everywhere? I'm embarrassed to bring it up and you people don't even know me. This is why I'm not sure I would want to have kids. Knowing that they could be doing the same thing. I'd like to think of myself as a fairly intelligent person, yet I still managed to do some of the most illogical and irresponsible things possible...

Anyone else been mugged? Anyone fought back?
 | Some mugging/gun stories have been brought up before, and I've always avoided telling mine because it could be outable. But, 1) I don't think anyone from my firm reads this board, and 2) I think I can be vague enough to maintain plausible denialability.

In my case the mugging occured, I got away and found a cop, a flash was put out and the guy was caught 10 minutes later. Later at the police station, I had this conversation with the detective:

Me: So he had the gun at my back and was trying to get me to go down this deserted passageway. To stall, I held my $4 up, proceeded to tell him I was going to pass out, and slumped to the ground.

Cop: That was very smart.

Me: Thanks. At this point someone at the end of the passageway walked by, so the mugger put the gun down to hide it. At this point I jumped up, grabbed the gun, and struggled with him.

Cop: That was very very dumb. He had 20 rounds in the clip and could have cut you in half if he pulled the trigger.

Me: Oh. Anyway, he slugged me in the side of the head and we both ran our separate ways.

Basically I was stupid and lucky. But I'm still proud of the fact that although the mugging and questioning made me miss Torts (I was a night student), I still made it to class on time for Contracts. |

 Here's an interview with Wes:http://www.instinctmag.com/cover.html
It appears as though James had a bf (of 2 weeks only) before he did the show. And Wes and James never had sex. If Wes is to be believed. |

				Update on the chocolate

I've been baking for the last two days (the flan looks really good, btw, the gingerbread made my house smell wonderful, and I'm still not sure about the lemon bars) for a variety of parties this weekend. After e/o's rave reviews on the Miles of Chocolate, I headed to Whole Foods this morning to check it out and see if I should forego the brownies I was planning in making and buy some of that instead. I was a little daunted by the price ($51 for a 8x12 sheet of the stuff), so I bought a single serving and brought it to the office. I had originally intended to share it with my co-workers and see if it was a big hit, but I've taken a bite, and I've now decided that $51 is a bargain and my co-workers will have to kill me if they're going to get a single crumb of this dessert.
In conclusion, Miles of Chocolate is phenomenal.

				Baseball Question

Yesterday the Yankees traded Nick Johnson, Juan Rivera and Randy Choate to the Expos for Javier Vasquez. For some reason, everyone is saying they gave up too much by giving up Nick Johnson. Can someone please explain why everyone loves Nick Johnson? From what I've seen he's an average first baseman, a good hitter but a shitty base-runner. I just don't get it. |

Why are you so nosejob obsessed? Is it possible that people's noses could just be shaped in a way that looks like a nosejob? And why do you care? Even if something screams Bad Nosejob to you, perhaps the person with that nose really likes it.**

** note: I have never had a nosejob, I have never had anyone mention to me that I might need a nosejob, and I have never given more than 5 minutes thought to either my nose or anyone elses. |

 | Thank you. In honor of my enormous steel balls (and the fact that I just saw the most recent James bond movie as well as got sucked into a Bond Marathon over Thanksgiving) I hereby submit my Official Bond Movie Rankings.

If there’s any theme or trend to be divined from these rankings it’s this: the presence of a huge secret weapon or fortress hidden in outer space/a volcano/a mushroom-shaped rock/underwater is sure to make me hate the movie. I don’t know why. I think I always wonder how the thing got built. Maybe it’s the idea of some sinister contractor screaming at some equally sinister landscaper, “No, no, no! The river full of piranhas is to be bordered with ferns growing out of faux lava rock, not bamboo trees surrounded by interlocking pavers!” Another trend is “Pissed-off Bond = good movie”. If Bond is doing nasty stuff to bad guys (e.g.-looking them in the eye before dumping them off a roof/cliff), then it’s a good story.

20. Moonraker
19. Diamonds Are Forever
18. You Only Live
17. The Man With the Golden Gun
16. A View to a Kill
15. The Spy Who Loved Me
14. Octopussy
13. The World is Not Enough
12. Tomorrow Never Dies
11. Die Another Day
10. Goldeneye
9. For Your Eyes Only
8. Live and Let Die
7. Dr. No
6. Licensed to Kill
5. From Russia With Love
4. On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
3. The Living Daylights
2. Thunderball
1. Goldfinger

The Brosnan Bond movies all seem pretty similar to me. This explains why they are ranked next to each other in the middle. Brosnan just doesn’t strike me as someone who can handle himself in a fight, which clearly is not Bond-like. He certainly can woo the ladies better than the other Bonds. And his scenes with M are very good, but that may be more of a credit to Judy Dench than to Brosnan.

I guess this is also a good place to do a quick evaluation of “Who is the best Bond?” Because Connery and Moore did so many movies (Connery 6, Moore 7) and consequently changed their approaches to the role, I will break them each into two groups: Early Connery (DN, FRWL, GF, TB), Late Connery (YOLT, DAF), Early Moore (LALD, MWGG, SWLM), and Late Moore (MR, FYEO, OP, AVK). For kicks I will also provide the rankings of the movies associated with these Bonds. The rankings are:

1.	Early Connery (7, 5, 1, 2)
2.	Timothy Dalton (6, 3)
3.	(Tie) George Lazenby (4) Early Moore (8, 17, 15)
5.	Pierce Brosnan (13, 12, 11, 10)
6.	Late Moore (20, 9, 14, 16)
7.	Late Connery (18, 19)

There definitely appears to be a correlation between who is playing Bond and whether I liked the movie…or is it the other way around? |

 | There are far, far worse ways to spend $51 than on some truly exceptional chocolate.

Though come to think of it, this time of year I'm perfectly happy with a 59 cent CVS marshmallow Santa, so perhaps I'll go get myself a really nice bottle of wine instead.
