Slave,

I know this is beyond your level of comprehension, but I simply do not care about your life. If I wanted to know more about your vagabond, tenuous job status, I could ask. However, I simply do not care. I doubt much has changed or will ever change with you though. You know, wherever you go, there you are.

Kisses to A. !
You are correct - you truly see everything.

Or not.

But it had a dog.

And not the part at the end where they switched the juries and the defense lawyer changes Capone's plea to guilty without asking Capone??

I love the movie, but I can't watch that without busting out laughing...

Anybody who visits the Windy City, I'll be happy to show you the sites near or in the Loop where they shot the bridge scene, the police HQ exteriors and the baby carriage scene at the train station...

You're kidding right? That saying is (a) old and (b) most likely stolen from:

People, I said "ensemble sitcom." It's short for "situation comedy." The word "situation" is not superfluous. A sitcom consists of recurring characters in a format (usually a 30 minute show once a week) in which there are one or more story lines centered around a common environment, such as a family home or workplace. The characters remain largely static and events in the sitcom resolve themselves by the conclusion of the show. Wikipedia entry.

The Simpsons is a sitcom. Carol Burnett and Donnie & Marie are not sitcoms. Sha Na Na is not a sitcom. Hee Haw is not a sitcom. The Dukes of Hazzard is not a sitcom. All in the Family is a sitcom, but is not an ensemble sitcom, because Archie was the only funny character.

I would have said Northern Exposure is not a sitcom because it had a multi-season story arc --- the characters were evolving, as in a primetime drama or a soap opera. However, it's now de rigeur for sitcoms to have multi-episode plots that don't resolve on the half-hour (e.g., perpetual Friends cliffhangers). The traditional sitcom format returns the characters to the exact same position in which they started (now parodied by bringing Kenny back to life, killing Carl, or blowing up Sealab).
Lancelot Link. none of the players had a central role, so it was more ensemble than most, plus post-cancellation not of them really hit bigger than others.

You might as well say "Knight Rider" was a sitcom because of the witty banter among Michael, the car, and the brunette in the jumpsuit.
"Groundbreaking" is probably a better description. Sure, DOH had the elements you mention that distinguish it from the garden variety sitcom. But the end of every episode brought resolution to the immediate issue, while the big picture remained the same. Boss Hogg was still fat, corrupt, and in charge; I always wished that I had Uncle Jessee's girl; Enos was still a dipstick; and the Duke Boys always had their Cooter and were fightin' the system like two modern day Robin Hoods.

And let's not forget the show's real star, the General Lee. It could perform dozens of frame-twisting maneuvers per episode, and yet it was ready to go, sparlkling like moonshine week after week. A moment of silence for the General Lee.

You know, these posts really just come off as you being jealous. Just because your job sucks and you live in DC doesn't mean he can't share the fun fringe benefits he gets from his. So (and here's your favorite line), shadup.

They didn't kill Carl, they froze him until they could find a cure.

BTW, Frat Aliens gets my vote as best new Aqua Teen.
Splitsville gets my vote as best Adult Swim episode ever. I've watched it a dozen times and find something new to laugh about each and every time. That said, Fishing Hole is kind of a rockin' tune.

Second vote for Northern Exposure.

Max Headroom was also great. (Edited to add: ok, maybe it's not an ensemble sitcom, since it's all about Max; ok, maybe it's not even a sitcom, since it was really just one long joke spread over several seasons; but hell, it was great).
Overrule. Have you tried to watch an episode of Max Headroom since it was first on (I think it was on Trio or A&E for awhile)? Unwatchable, on a Square Pegs level (which I also caught an episode of recently).
